~FAIRY GARDENS...a tiny place to hide..and reflect..

Sometimes you want to talk about something..but it's not possible.  I think I will just show you my Fairy garden and what it's doing at this time of year.
Such a sweet, tiny and simple place to garden and create.  I've made mine so that I can move them into shade in Southern California's blistering summers..I just roll them onto the patio where they add color and interest.
I'm hooked.  It's really fun.  I am going to look for some very tiny miniature roses this year.
All I had to do this year was cut back the dead button mum's and make way for the new growth..and here they came again.  I've added some of the tiny things back that I removed until I could cut away the dead growth and make way for the new..but I haven't really done anything to the little garden yet.  It needs tweaking but so far I've only pulled up a chair and snipped and trimmed.  Soon the plants will be higher than the house.  Lots to do yet...say...where's my tiny birdhouse??  It's so easy to lose things in the growth...

I put the little wheelbarrow back..added the tiny garden tools..replaced the stepping stones..

A tiny johnny jump up looks so big in this little garden..  Little stepping stones lead under the arbor to the front door of the cottage.  The inside has a mossy floor..

The little creeping fig is growing naturally over the arbor.  It's fun to keep it trimmed.  I have more snipping to do as you can see.  The miniature ground cover is doing beautifully and drapes gracefully over the sides of the wheelbarrow.  I feed it miracle grow from time to time.

You can just catch a bit of the little Fairy kneeling there under the leaves.  As you can see, I am clearing a path for the stones..and for the little benches..

I do my gardens with a lot less miniatures  and pretty much stick to fewer items and more natural things like stones, potted miniature plants.  Mine are not quite so structured.
This is the next little miniature garden I have to work on.  I need a Fairy house for this one.  I have a beautiful one with shutters that open and close etc..but...I fear water and outdoor elements will ruin it..but..I may give in and use it.
So...are any of you going to try a little Fairy garden this year?  :)  If you have one, how is it doing?  It would be easy to wheel them under shelter from the cold.  Right?  Yikes, I hope so.  I know nothing about really cold weather.
They really are fun..and so versatile.

I am sorry I haven't been blogging lately.  It's been a difficult month..and today is a day I need to keep busy..and think of my friends out there and thank God for all of you and my family.  I'm blessed.
My love to you,
Mona

  6. Dear Mona, You have some of the sweetest miniatures in your fairy garden....I love the birdhouse. I had a small fairy garden in a big white enamel bowl last year...it did pretty well...but I didn't give it the attention that it needed (shame on me..lol) I am really going to try to do better this year! Big hugs to you during this difficult time....Penny

  7. so sorry it has been a rough month. I do know what you mean. Sending (((((HUGS)))) to you and hope for brighter days to come.
I have been thing about fairy gardens all week. I looked at Barnes and Noble for a magazine on fairy gardens but couldn't find any. Later I found the cutest little fairies. I did a couple last year and loved them. I had a hard time putting my fairy house out in the elements. My son's new neighbor is quite the gardener. Her front yard is full of houses. Can't wait til she starts planting them again this year.....so I can take pictures.

  13. Mona,
I have never made a fairy garden but I think you are inspiring me. I guess I will begin with trying to find a container for the garden. Do you always use a wheelbarrow for your gardens?

Lovely post Mona . . . I thought of you off and on all day.
    Love and hugs,
    Lynne

Your little fairy gardens are adorable. Gardening is always does me good, working among colors, scents, feeling the foliage, the dirt, hearing birds singing, being among butterflies and bees. God's beautiful creation.

Have a lovely Sunday and a good week.

The Fairy Garden is delightful and the use of a wheelbarrow to move it around is giving me ideas. What a fun project this could be.

I love your fairy garden! It's got me wanting to try one this year and I like the idea of putting it in a wheelbarrow so it can be moved to a cooler location during the blistering heat we often get in the summer.
Take care and have a good week!

  35. I know of no one that has a fairy garden like yours Mona - I am amazed to see it growing so well and continuing to grow. I am afraid one wouldn't do well in my climate. Probably look great with summer growth, but whatever would I do with it in winter - I don't think the fairies would like the snowbanks. Gee, even though I have an Elfen Cottage thats bustling in spring, summer and late fall, those little buggers pack up and leave for the winter - I think they hang oot around a place called Riverside - we always know when they are back for the summer, cause someone has swept out their cottage and I noticed someone fixed the swing by their house just before they vacated for the winter. he,he How the heck is Mirror Guy - we saw a big flash yesterday afternoon....right over the top of the house - was that PH? Hope you are feeling a little better today. lol

  39. Dear Mona, sorry to read that you have been feeling down, but then there are times when sad feelings just seem to overtake us. I don't know if it is best to stop and reflect or to keep going. Seems we all have to find what works best for us. The fairy garden is a beautiful retreat for yiu in so many ways. No, I have never tried one myself and most likely will not.a
Wishing yiu better days, my friend.
