~DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF....

...and it's all small stuff, or so they say.
I believe that, for the most part...but sometimes it's the small stuff that can get you down.  I hired a gardener on June 6th and he was terrible!  I mean really bad all the way around.  He did NOTHING but mow, blow and go and that was NOT what was promised.
Nor would he communicate, which was a headache.
So..I fired him and hired a new gardener.
I think if it had been left up to PH that terrible gardener would still be here! :):)
Our hedges have never looked so nice!
The grass that had grown up around the fruit and Birch tree's is GONE!  The flowerbeds were all freshly weeded.  Mateo's wife said that each time Mateo came our yard would look better and better. (As opposed to worse and worse!)  I am so pleased.

His business card says it all.   Corners were clear of weeds and leaves, dead branches were cleared away on the tree's...it was wonderful...and then..
Poor Mateo!
My beautiful ferns that I have so lovingly grown to lay over the low flower bed wall,

...were shorn off.  I looked out my front window, saw things flying through the air, heard a panicked yell and saw my new Gardener running across the lawn hollering at the top of his lungs to "STOP!"
His helper was chopping my ferns off even with the wall...and now they look like this..

My poor gardener!!  He was beside himself!

But..they will grow back in time, and at least the corner one is in tact!   A small irritation so small that I thought twice about blogging about it.
Leaves are beginning to blow through the air now..and even though it's still so hot, it's an early signal that Autumn is on it's way.
I actually went out to lunch with a dear friend today, then  off to my favorite little Vintage Flaire shop and found a pair of the sweetest pearls.  Searched a bit for pumpkins but nothing is out yet.
Soon I hope.

It was a good day.  I hesitated to talk about Sandy but it made me feel better to talk about her and how I am feeling.  Thank you for listening..thank you!

Love,
Mona

  4. Oh- That is not so bad, Mona. And, I know that YOU know it is nothing in the big picture of things...fully fixable and it will be as good as new.
I am so glad you wrote about Sandy, Mona. You never know when someone else needs to hear that someone else is grieving. It can seem like a pit and often people think they are the only ones IN that pit. God bless you and I hope the days get easier. xo Diana

  8. I laughed a bunch at ". . . gardener, he was terrible! I mean really bad all the way around. He did NOTHING but mow, blow and go and that was NOT what was promised . . ."

Mow, Blow and Go needed the boot . . . happy you are happy with the new gardener, (even with the little mishap), beautiful yard and plantings you have Mona!

I like when you tell us about Sandy . . . your first born, special loving daughter . . . was she named after a family member?

  11. always talk about the ones you've lost. it makes you feel better and makes them remembered. it's horrible when someone dies and ten their name is never mentioned! isn't it wonderful to have a good worker? sometimes you have to go through lots of bad ones to get to a good one!

  14. Dear Mona
I, like Tanza, have also had time to catch up on all of your posts and, as with bj, it seems as though you are on my mind, daily. What a special soul you possess, that you have the capacity to reach out and touch others all across the globe. You expressed a wish that we could have known Sandy. We are getting to know her through you and what a beautiful and strong woman she was, so very much like you her incredible Mother. As always, coming to visit you fills me with so much joy and yet at the same time, such deep sadness for your heartache and I leave, always, with an overwhelming sense of love!
    Big hug, Des xxx

  19. I can just imagine the gardener - I am sure he felt bad, but hey, it'll grow doubly as good. Mom used to always say gardens n grass were like hair - it's gotta be trimmed now and then to shine n look nice - Remember that olde saying - "get rid of the dead ends", eh., Good to see you here Mona and what a surprise when I checked in this morning and saw your post. I am so happy you are back. I will be soon too. Love yah kiddo xoxo

  20. Your yard looks pretty and your ferns still look fluffy and bright green. They may become even more lush after their accidental trimming.

I was happy to find that you are posting again! I am glad you are back.

    So sorry....WHERE IS IT...???
SOMEbody probably got a package with cookies and are wondering who the heck "bj in Texas" is.....
