For the better part of my life I thought I was allergic to strawberries. I was told I would get hives if I ate them. You know, those large lumps that can come up and itch like crazy when you eat something you are allergic to.
So...I didn't eat them. I remember I would sit so close to a bowl of them...or linger over them in the market...taking in their lovely aroma.
..and then one day I broke down and wolfed down a strawberry!
Nothing. Hours went by, nothing. So..I ate another..and another..
and I have been gorging on them as often as I can ever since.
Patient Husband came home yesterday with this huge box of strawberries..
...and in nothing flat I had them washed..WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE SIZE??
Huge berries..and so tasty!
Not easy taking a picture with one hand..at least not for me, so....
s'cuse the blur. Kinda hard on the eyes, I know!
...sliced
(not excuse for the blur here!)
and all ready to eat.
We had big bowls of them last night after dinner and this morning I had them on my cream of wheat!
And I still have enough left for a pie..so I am going to just hop right over to see Joyce @
October Farm and look through her wonderful file of recipes on her sidebar!
Lots of wonderful cooks on blogs..but when I want a killer recipe I run to Joyce!
These strawberries were so sweet! I have to do the pie soon or there won't be any left!
Have a strawberry filled day!
Love,
Mona :)
Ok, ok..so they were VERY blurry!! :( If you think these are bad, you should see the ones I deleted.
Stupid camera! I know, you're right..it's never my fault! :)
They look so yumalishious, I could smell them through the putter.

They look delish, Mona. Glad you can enjoy them without any allergies! Wouldn't it be neat to have a strawberry patch and grow your own? Would love that!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, so glad you found out they were good.
ReplyDeleteI know we can buy strawberries year round, however; there is nothing like that first Strawberry Shortcake with fresh strawberries, right out of the garden. There are several farms around this area, where - you can pick your own and we usually do. Love, Love strawberries and yours look great. Those photos are not blurry, its your artistic flair :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you aren't allergic to these wonderful bits of deliciousness! You have quite the bowl of them....how tempting!
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you're not allergic to those delicious berries and are able to eat your fill. I am allergic to some strawberries but not all of them so I'm always tempting fate when I have a bowl. Hope you can get that pie made before they're all gone. If not, I'm sure they still have more where those came from.
ReplyDeleteOh my heaven darlin', those look juicy!!!
ReplyDeleteI too wouldn't eat strawberries when I was a kid, said they had rock's in 'em. I'd even turn down strawberry ice cream.
I got over it! Heeehehehehe!
God bless ya beautiful Mona and enjoy a couple bowls of those luscious berries for me, would ya? :o)
Hi darling, these look so yummy...
ReplyDeletehugs ~lynne~

ReplyDeleteGet that pie made and pour me a cup of joe..I'll be right there..Love ya girlfriend..Hugs and love Gl♥ria
ReplyDeleteO they look just wonderful and refreshing....I have strawberries in the garden and they are coming up nicely this year...I moved them to a better part and put straw underneath them...It's amazing that you couldn't eat them before and now you can....silly camera...well I always have that problem...I just have the camera on my phone...Happy Thursday with love Janice
ReplyDeleteThose strawberries are huge and looks so good and juicy. It's a good thing you found out you weren't allergic to them or you would be missing a lot. I love strawberries!....Christine
ReplyDeleteMona, we're getting bowlfuls of fresh strawberries from our little patch. Unlike last year, when I froze them we're enjoying them fresh in smoothies, on cereal, in pancakes and just plain by themselves...YUM! And, of course, it's NEVER your fault, but the stupid camera.
ReplyDeleteMona- I LOVE strawberries. We won't have any fresh picked ones here for about 6 to 8 weeks yet. Lucky girl you are- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteDarn those cameras! They do that to me sometimes too. lol! No matter, the strawberries look delicious and the blurr just made me think there were more. Ha-ha!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
I am so, so glad that you're no longer allergic to strawberries. I'm sad you've missed out on their deliciousness all this time. . . . but I suppose that makes them even sweeter to you now!
ReplyDeleteI think the camera was just too, too excited to stay in focus! It was busy looking at all those berries! ;)
Oh those do look sooooooooooo good. We have a few growing in the yard, I get about 6 a day, just enough to tease me. The pie sounds fabulous. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteDear Mona ~ you always put a big smile on my face. I am glad that you had the courage to try a strawberry! Not only are they delish and high in vitamin C, I also read recently that they help to whiten your teeth. So keep on enjoying those berries! Wishing you a very Happy Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
