Most of you agreed that this little white (previously black and very badly chipped) mailbox, should be red..and so it is~!  What do you think?

The real test was Howard..but there was a hitch here.
~Quick little story~
I painted it yesterday afternoon..and just as I began to spray it...an evening breeze came..I wasn't too worried as it wasn't too strong..and I was nearly finished..it only took a minute or so..then I did a second coat about 45 minutes later, and went inside.
The breezes kick up..and when I came out the plastic had blown over the mail box..messing up my wet paint.  Being of a patient nature...(since living with patient husband!) ..I called him and asked him to help me carry little red mailbox on the plastic sheeting, into the garage out of the evening breeze for repairs...which was done.

Closing the garage door, we retired into the little red trimmed house for the evening.. :)  (sorry, I'm getting carried away here!)

(pauses for a bite of cake and sip of coffee....)  :)

...and so early this morning, which is so like him...I heard the sounds of what sounded like little red mailbox being installed back to it original place..and expected sweet husband to be all smiles when I got up..waiting for me to discover what he had done....  but nothing.    Strange thought I....
...and went to investigate.    I didn't take any photo's..because he was upset..but..the flap on the top of the mailbox was...a total mess...and the paint all mess up and ruined.  I immediately knew what had happened.
The wind had marred it up the night before and I just hadn't noticed the top of the lid as it was open.....not a problem...I would respray it...

I went in to say good morning and tell him thank you for installing it..but that the lid would have to be repainted.
The poor man looked SO woebegone!  I asked what was wrong and he said "I'm so sorry!  I messed up your mailbox while putting it back on the wall." ..and I said.. "Sweetie, YOU didn't do that to the lid.  It was done last night.  Couldn't you tell it was smeared paint?"  He said.."Are you sure?  I thought I had done it while trying to get it back in place..."
So out he went, took it down and the part I had not noticed the night before got repainted!
The end. :)

I LOVE happy endings..don't you?

I also wanted to tell you that Mellodee at "Mellodee's Musings" suggested I recover the seats of the wicker chairs in something with red.....so off I went for new material yesterday.  The check will be the cording...  Can you believe the "JoAnne's"  is closing here in Riverside and I got all that material for $22.00?  Yep!  That Mellodee is so smart!

Yeah...I KNOW!  Such a deal!  Six yards of the floral..and about 3 yards of the check...plus the cording!
I was in material heaven!  Originally it was $9.99 per yard.

No..I don't sew..but sew what! :)  I can try for that price!  I mean I used to...sew ..

Hugs and love..

  1. Your husband sounds like a Sweetie. Cute story and red for Valentines Day.

  2. You're such a sweetheart Mona! Your husband is too! I love the red trim and accessories on your home...and the mailbox is so pretty. Have a Happy Valentine's Day!

  3. The mailbox looks so nice done in red...your husband must have the patience of Job! Love the materials you chose for the cushions, can't wait to see them made up.

    Shelia ;)

  7. Good Evening Mona Sweetie...
Oh what a beautiful share this evening. I love, love this red mailbox on your house. It really pops on that wall, along with that little red chair. Oh I love, LOVE it.

I can't wait to see the cushions when you get done with them, and my gosh what a bargain on that fabric. It's ashame your store is going to be closing though. I would be lost without my JoAnns fabric store.

Have a glorious Wednesday sweetie. Can't wait to see everything finished, and your husband? He reminds me of mine. He is just the exact same.

Many hugs and much love, Sherry

  8. Hi Mona, It's going to look soooo great when it's all done! Love the fabrics. Looks like you might have enough of the check to make 2 small roll or rectangular pillows to accent the cording on the larger cushion. (This is why my hubby hates it when I get an idea for HIM to make or change something. It's NEVER just one thing!! One idea, turns into 5 and it becomes a major project!!) Anyway, I do think a little red check pillow would look great! (Good for your back too!) What do you think?

Thanks for the mention!! I always have lots of ideas, just no skills to make them happen myself!

(Do not worry if you don't do it, it's just an idea....I won't take it personally! lol!)

  9. Red is such a cheery/cherry color and your little mailbox is perfect. The fabric will be fabulous on your chairs. Happy February Hearts...

  10. What a sweetie your guy is Mona..Len would be killing me ha ha!! I don't sew either any more can't see to thread my needle ha ha!! ove ya girl..Hugs and smiles Gloria

Plus I love the material, what a deal!

  13. What a LOVELY story, Mona - and I just loved the way you stopped midway for your sip of coffee and bite of cake :)

What a dear, sweet, special man your husband is, but then, what a dear, sweet, special lady his wife is!!

I LOVE your little postbox & it looks marvellous painted red. Your porch is looking wonderful and, with the new, red, checkered cushion covers, it's going to reach designer levels! You can both be justifiably proud of what you've done with your home. It really is an asset and is clearly well-loved and treasured.

  14. Mona,
I love your red mailbox. I have an old iron black on the side of my Cape house. I love them!

  15. Although I said nothing, I knew that mail box would soon be red.
