~IT'S NOT FOR EVERYONE..PLAID~

Indeed it's not!  But, OH how I love it!
Many, many years ago in the early 1970's I was "just looking" in a beautiful furniture store (Ethan Allen) and they had this thick catalog on their counter.  Several in fact which cost $10 each.  A decor magazine cost that much and more today.  After walking around the store..knowing full well I could buy nothing, of course I made sure the sales people knew not to spend any of their time with me, I picked up the catalog and began browsing through it.  My face must have shown my longing, because a nice man came up to me and said, "would you like to have one of our catalogs?"  I shook my head no, and said I was "just looking" AGAIN!
and the work begins..

That sweet man insisted that I take it.  No charge, he said.  The catalog was a beautiful book at least an inch thick.  The furniture was Colonial of course, with woods and finishes so lovely..that in time I wore that book out.
The point is...there was a dining room...a PLAID dining room that was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and from that time on I have dreamed of a red plaid dining room.  Now I have it.
End of story.
The first piece goes up!  (one of these days that cottage cheese ceiling is going to go!  I guess I could call it "retro" :) because it certainly is.

This picture was take at a different time of day, not so bright.  Later a neighbor came to visit and I took another picture..actually the pictures should be reversed.
Some of you know I live in a home where strange things happen.  I don't like to go into a great detail because it always seems to get worse when I do.  If it were daytime..I wouldn't mind.  :)
But right now it's nearly three in the morning so the less said the better.  Believe me or not..it's been very difficult at times.  I am now as used to it as I will ever be but I used to think about moving.  PH is at a loss so we try to ignore it most of the time.
Enlarging this photo might help to see them.  Some are on the move and they move FAST!  Only black or a white streak can be seen sometimes..but go unnoticed by those that don't know.  Long story and 'nuff said.

This is a very, very bright room so the wallpaper looks washed out in photo's and if there seems to be some blue in it, there isn't.  It's the lighting.

Perhaps the brightness of the room is the reason the camera picked up the orbs.  Look closely..some are huge!  A trick of lighting on the lense.  I wish!!  It is not.

...and the room is back together...finally!  It's going to take me a few days to recover. :)
The black and red braided rug?  I don't know.  Found it at a garage sale..so right now that is where it landed.

In some spots the deep red of the paper shows up more.  Wish  I could have done a better job of photographing.  I'm sorry about the lighting..and for so many pictures.  I usually don't do that.
If you are still here...thanks so much for dropping in.
Love,
Mona

  1. Oh, Mona! You have finally "got your wish" to have a red plaid dining room and it looks lovely. Quite a change from the plain, painted walls before...adds depth to the room, I think. I had to look long and hard to see the black/white things to which you alluded,..I think I could make out a couple of transparent "orbs" in the second of the two pictures featuring your cuckoo clock, but I didn't see anything else in any of the other pictures.
It was such a super surprise to find you'd posted when I checked, on impulse a while ago! I do hope you are keeping well. Huge hug xxx

  2. Hi Mona! Oh, I love to know your dream has come true with your pretty red plaid wallpaper. I think it looks wonderful! Your story of the catalog reminds me of when I was newly married. I would go into the Ethan Allen store and each January they had one of those inch thick catalogs and it was free. I was a little embarrassed that I couldn't afford anything but I wanted the catalog. I got that catalog each year til they quit making them. I drooled over the pages of beautiful furniture. Never bought a piece of anything Ethan Allen, couldn't afford it, but oh I had the dreams. I see those ghostly circles! Some folks would say this is crazy but have you ever considered contacting a paranormal investigator? I see those TV shows all the time. Just a thought. I'm afraid you're a much braver gal than I would be.
    Be a sweetie,

    1. My gosh, Shelia, I did the same thing! I was just lucky not to have to pay for the book..but I only got the one and had no idea them came out more than once. Common sense would have told me that!! LOL I'm glad you like it. I know you just got rid of a lot of paper..and one day I may also..but right now..I'm loving it.

    1. Theresa, that is EXACTLY what I've been hearing. I had no idea until I bought the paper and had my paper hanger check it out..I was so insecure about it. He assured me it was recently the thing. As soon as he said that, I began to ..back off a bit from it..but I've waited a good 44 years or so for it. So..I did it and I'm glad!

  9. glad you got your plaid room, i remember back in the 70's plaid was in for clothing, furniture and any and everything. i had a brown plaid sofa and chair, got those in 1964. also big roses were popular, big red roses on everything. i believe everyone should decortate their home just as they like it, to their own taste and not others... i love the size of your room, so bright and open....

  11. Yes, your long held dream (plaid room) came true. That is what counts.

I believe the other weird things which have happened. But I don't see the spots or whatever. My feeling, about bits of light, which appear in my photos, that they are just tricks of light, going into the lens of the camera. They mostly make a unique and interesting effect.

But just because I don't see them, with the den reflections in my own computer screen, doesn't mean that you don't see them. Or that others don't see them.

All in all, I'd be more concerned with the Other Things which have happened...............!!!!!! Those-are-weird!!!!

    Hugs, Tessa

    1. Yep..a dream come true. It was fun watching it go up and the change it made. Lots of work though. About the orbs.
I wish I could get the clip of those orbs that my daughter in law and granddaughter took. Actually they pretty much ruin pictures.
If you could just see the film.. I have had the "bits of light" theory explained to me. Who knows. Could be. :)

  13. I love the plaid wallpaper. Its makes the room even more cozy. I cant wait to see this room decorated for Christmas. Now that will be stunning. I always love hearing your stories. Your tell a story like Norman Rockwell painted a picture. So real and easy to relate to. I think that it's all in how you choose to relate to something you don't understand. Out of the ordinary occurrences don't have to be scary or threatening. I can see beings living or dead being drawn to your sweet, caring personality and your welcoming home.
    Thanks so much for sharing........Sherry

  16. Mona- That is so very beautiful! I think when we long for something that long without "changing our mind about it"-we need to do it/get it. I am that way with a pair of channel back chairs that I had covered in a floral 30 years ago! They have an soft aqua background and rose colored cabbage roses on them. It was a big splurge back then but they have worn like iron, look like brand new and I never tire of them. Some things are just meant to be!
I see your orbs. I know and we have talked about it before. I am a believer in the seen and the unseen. God bless you. xo Diana

As far as the orbs are concerned..the fact that they fly around just ..astounds me.
I am used to them now..but what was different about them this time is that I DID NOT USE THE FLASH as always before.
If you notice, nothing else is blurred and if you look closely you can see they are on the move. Not..sure if I posted that pic. Will have to look and see.

  20. Dear Mona, I know that catalog well. I had one too! Some of my pieces came from Ethan Allen many years ago. I still have them because it took a long time to acquire them. Love your red plaid walls. Life is short and you need to enjoy each minute of it. At the age of 74, I seem to have lost my "desire" to decorate for the holidays too! Small children make the holidays so precious and at this time, I don't have any little ones in my life. Your home is your castle and enjoy it every moment of it - you deserve it Sending you ((((((((((((hugs))))))))). Love, Connie

    2. I like your new wall paper very much. I was just doing some catch up blog reading today when I came across this post. I could see many fairly large orbs, especially in the one photo you took. Very coincidentally, as I had just been loading some photos from my camera into the computer there was one with an orb in it. My husband said it was just from the flash on the camera. I asked him why it wasn't on any of the pictures before or after that one. I had not changed positions, though my grandson, husband, and Fuzzy-pom had. He had no answer for that. I snapped several in a row of my grandson, husband, and Fuzzy on and near the couch. In one of the pics there is an orb right beside my grandson's face, not a large orb, but it is there. At first I thought it was some sort of round droplet that had dried on the computer screen, but it was still there after the screen was cleaned.

I had just finished looking up information about the significance of orbs appearing in photos, and then I was catching up on your blog posts, and here you had written about them, too. I never noticed them in any of my pictures before this. Maybe it was my grandson's guardian angel there beside him. That is what I will plan to continue to think of it as anyway.
When my daughter, this grandson's mother was little, she used to talk about talking with and seeing a really nice almost invisible lady named Angela in her room sometimes at night. That happened in this house, too
