~BITTERSWEET..~

This is the toy corner in my home. There has always been one for the Grandchildren..
Books and dollies..trucks and cars...but they all grew up. However now...another generation of babe's are coming along! Oh, the JOY!

Just in this little cradle alone you see a pillow that was made by Rebecca at A GATHERING OF THOUGHTS a tiny doll blanket made by Tammy at A STITCH IN THYME and I am decorating with toys again!

Here it is, nearly Thanksgiving and the next day begins Christmas decorating. I will tell you why I am so excited about this year! It is because there is a toddler in the family, a tiny girl to make a Christmas wonderland for. I have missed that.
No, not the decorating..but seeing that wonder in a tiny childs eyes.

That is what I have missed. My children as they became adults, would say things like "Oh come on Mom, you didn't decorate just for us..." and I would feel a little guilty because they were right! I did decorate because I loved doing it..but I also did it because of the wonder on their tiny faces.

So..this year..I am using the dollies, yes and all the toys are coming out. Our baby Emily will love it. The dolls are vinyl so she can play with them. I have doll trunks full of baby cloths and when she gets older I hope she enjoys them when she comes to Grandma's house. GREAT Grandma, that is! :)

Am I happy..yes, I really am. It's a bittersweet season..but I love it.

Love and hugs... :)
Mona

  1. Oh Mona,
Those baby dolls are so sweet! They look quite real too. I can't wait to be a Grandma, I am ready now. My daughter can wait,(she is only 19) but my son and dil are old enough and I am hoping they are ready soon! Enjoy your little grand-daughter! Happy Thanksgiving too! Cindy

  2. Mona, I'm nearly in tears looking and listening to your post this morning. Those dolls are so lovely and real like. I'm so happy for you and I just know Christmas will be even more special with your great granddaughter.
My sister just had her first granddaughter and first grandchild. She is in seventh heaven.
I hope someday I'll have one to but it's unlikely since my son has been ill since he was 22 years old. But, I can always enjoy my nieces and nephews.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving sweet lady!

  3. Okay, it's either way too early for me to be blogging, or I'm just stupid, but the baby in that last pic looks real.

  4. I so know what you mean, Mona,...I still have a 7 yr old granddaughter that loves dolls and all their finery. We also will have Christmas with our little great-grand this year...(7 months old) I have bought her so many cute things....fun fun...

I have to say that I watched THE NOTEBOOK for the 3rd time last week...and thought of you and your first husband. If you've not seen it, I doubt that you should...it is SOOOOO sad but one of the best movies I've ever seen. Such a love story.
I am hoping, when you feel like it, that you will start telling us somemore of your life. I so enjoyed reading all those posts before. Only when you can, of course.

I am so so glad you are feeling so much better. I just know your Thanksgiving and Christmas will be so blessed....and fun!!
    love, bj

  8. Hey no the spice lids use to be light green but now if you buy them in the grocery stores they are black. Which looks much better in my kitchen. Been black for a few years now. I've wanted to paint it for a long time. Thanks! Love ya

  9. You know Mona, do it for you first then worry about what excuses you might need.. hehehe... I love this time of year so very much. I just find a peace within me that calms the 10 months that came before it. It rejuvinates me for the next 10 to come. You get out those toys and pretty up that room. One is as good as a dozen if you ask me. Love and hugs Mona.

  12. Mona, the baby doll is just as sweet as she can be. She is certainly graced with the talents of Rebecca and Tammy.

I too miss the wonder in a child's eyes at Christmas. My two granddaughters are growing up, but if the Lord is willing I will have more little ones in the near future. My youngest son, who will be 29 this coming Valentine's Day is finally saying "when I have children". Not that I want them to rush anything. I want the time to be right for them.

    Happy Thanksgiving my dear friend.
Many hugs and much love to you, Sue

  14. I meant to tell you, I was given to dolls from a friend that I am in the process of making outfits for. I want to use them to display my works. One is blonde the other is brunette. Your dolls inspired me to get back to work on them. I also purchased an old two handled basinette that I plan to refinish for them. I love how you display them. Blessings to you and yours on this holiday friend!! Hugs. Tammy

  17. I love to 'decorate with dollies' and I love having a little area with toys that children can play with. I have dolls, legos, blocks, books, and all kinds of fun things. I love them all, too. And even though we go through changes along the way...the little children always bring so much joy. Enjoy this holiday season. You always inspire me!

  18. Just looking at your blog is inspiring me to move along with my holiday decorating. Even if only I enjoy it. But I know that will not be the case. Since we have two trees and my kids are mourning the loss of the old "kids tree and ornaments", I'm thinking of putting it outside on my porch as I saw another neighbor do. Do you think my kids might go for this? Would the ornaments be safe? Must ponder....

  19. Sweet Mona~ I'm strolling in to catch up and especially to wish you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving!
It's such a wonderful time to stop and reflect on all those we cherish and are truly grateful for.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to visit and leave feeling inspired!

Even though our Thanksgiving is very small in number, with hubby and son (we don't count the cat cause she doesn't like turkey). We don't scrimp on the menu...from appetizers to desserts with several carb loaded dishes in between! We will be enjoying tryptophan playoffs too!

    Sweet Holiday wishes,
    Sara

  23. Hi Mona, I am so happy to hear that you are feeling better! Your dolls are so precious! And I agree with you that Christmas decorating is fun, but mostly fun to see the joy on the childrens faces! It is a blessing! I would like to know how you get the "snow" on your blog, but I will email you about that. So take good care, and God bless you and your family!
