~SOME BLUE FOR ME IS GOOD~

I am trying to stay up more and more. My body is reacting adversely to one of the antibiotics and I am finding it difficult to walk...so that med. had to be stopped. At least for now. Getting my strength back seems to be a challenge and that has never happened to me before. Ever. Age? Of course not! Perish the thought! :)

Anyway...last month..I think..(I have lost track of time) I was in need of a new lamp shade for my bedroom lamp and of course I looked to my talented fellow bloggers first. I love the shades Marilyn makes on THE CUTEST COTTAGE LAMPS and have bought from her before...so I looked to her first. I found this one and though it didn't work for the bedroom lamp (too big and blue), I switched it with the living room floor lamp and I loved it. Perfect. I usually am not much into crystals but this was a wonderful change. And...it matched the little blue rocker which was here when I came.

I loved the fabric Marilyn used on this shade. Even though I am not into crystals ..I liked them on this shade.

Look how pretty and sort of Victorian they are. Nice.

The colors do NOT go with my picture frames..but..hey..this is home. Some picture switching is coming. I can feel it. Seems you change one thing and that leads to...well..you know the story! New carpets and paint by next year!! Right? :)

Also, as I mentioned, the shade matched the chair which I inherited when I moved here. It wasn't really my colors..but it is such a comfortable little chair and I wanted to keep something of the colors that Howards late wife loved. In some ways I feel I am just caring lovingly for this little home and making it comfortable. So the chair stays. She lived here for over 40 years...and please don't say you could NEVER live in another woman's home. One never knows what one will do when the chips are down. It just was not practical at our age to move to another home. I have grown to love this little home very much!

I must be better or I wouldn't be up once again at this late hour expounding away..and trying to get something posted. Back to bed. Tomorrow will be a better day! :) I MUST get well. There is so much to do and as Balisha says..never enough time!
~Love and smiles~

  1. Your lamp is lovely Mona! I think it looks quite good with the art on the wall behind it. And the crystals are so pretty. Doesn't every Southern California girl need a little bling?

When we adopted our children out of foster care we had to take classes about dealing with the circumstances they have been through. Some couples wondered if a child could love again or would always be emotionally detatched from new parents. It was pointed out that children who still loved their birth parents after all that may have happened showed a great capacity for love in the firt place and yes, they could love again. We have found it to be very true.

Some women would be uncomfortable living with another woman's things but the fact that you both had great loves in your life is a testament to what you both are capeable of. Enjoy your life together. Enjoy your blue chair. And get some rest!

  2. Glad to hear you are slowly progressing. It's easy to become impatient and do too much. So, listen to your body (and your doctor) and do as you can. You are in my prayers, and in my thoughts....hugs, Kathleen

  3. Right on Dawn!

Love the lampshade and think it fits in quite well in a "cottagey" way.\

Ditto to Kathleen and listen to your doctor. Take care.

  4. Hey Mona.....don't despair.
I had a knee replacement two years ago, and it was a horrible experience. They say it turns out really good, or really bad.....and it was just my luck I guess. I languished for 3 months, and then the rest of the year was painful, exhausting, and discouraging. But I got through it, and it got better, little by little. Now, I hardly think of that knee at all, though it will never be right.
    This too shall pass.

  5. Love that new shade! Marilyn does amazing work! Glad to hear you are feeling better. Sometimes it just longer to recover....Take it easy and don't over tax yourself!

  6. OH MonaGirl...Please grow stronger and get well. I can't bear the thought of you being even a little bit ill. You are too sweet...too lovely to stay down for long.

I love the lamp...love the colors. More so I love your gracious heart. One never knows what one might do given the circumstances they find themselves in. Accepting and loving what was once another woman's home is the give all of giving...

You have inspired me once again. I could only hope and pray that if anything ever happens to me and my love is left alone that he will somehow find SOMEONE to love on this earth. I would pray she wouldn't toss the things I have loved into the trash.

Blessings to you...pray for your wellness.

  12. Hi Mona,
So glad to hear that you're feeling a little better...just don't overdo it now.((hugs)) I love the little peaks into your home. Isn't it nice to have someone in your life to care, when you are older? I have widow friends who will never marry again. I'm glad that I did. It's a comfortable thing.
    Thanks for the mention :)

  13. Sweet Mona....I'm praying for you girl...I've had both knees replaced and my Right hip. I know exactly what your going through. I'm allergic to most pain medication so the first month or so was a real treat, If you know what I mean, trying to get through it all without pain medication. You'll be glad you did it in a short while I Promise...I pushed myself hard after surgery because I didn't want to end up walking like I had a replacement. I now speed walk about 3 miles a day and you'd never know I have all these fake joints, so be encouraged my friend. Love your lamp, xoxo~Kathy~ @ Sweet Up-North Mornings...

  14. Precious Mona ~ Take it one day at a time, you'll be up & bouncing around soon. I know what it feels like first hand to be down & not mobile as you would like.

The lampshade compliments that chair so beautifully. You are so right about the house, the chair & the love of your life ... what a sweet gesture of love to keep that chair from your loving heart.

My bil married a woman who stood in the doorway & literally pitched everything his beloved first wife owned before dying of cancer so young ... her daughters weren't allowed anything, but did get a few things from the trash. What a loving heart you have.

I have often spoken to my DH that if anything happens to me he will find a new love that would share my possessions with my children.

Prayers are still lifted for you & you are thought of every day ... Hugs, TTFN ~Marydon

  17. It's a precious lamp, and a little blue with pink is a good thing... Hubby always says "well not EVERYTHING has to match'. Hmmm, wonder if he could be right about that. *giggles*

Glad you are up and about and YES, toss that icky med out the window!

  27. Hi Mona,
Your comments were so sweet! I have been thinking about you a lot and I am so glad your feeling a bit better. What an ordeal you have been through, so keep taking good care of yourself. The lamp shade is beautiful and I'm like you, I don't usually like bling but somehow that fits just perfectly and the bling is so soft and lovely. I am totally hearing what you say about keeping that chair. My Dad passed away 2 years ago and my Mom is now in a new relationship. Something she never thought would happen and yet it is so right for her at this time of her life. I will be thinking of you and stopping back to let you know how I did at our local County Fair. I am still a 4-H girl at heart and I just love the Fair! Hugs to you, Cindy

  33. Mona, Dear,

I hope you're resting up and getting stronger every day. Enjoy the sunshine and breezes---they're like tonic.

I, too, am in a pinks and roses phase of my life, and my DEAR DH just smiles at everything I drape in lace and cover in florals. I DO like both lamps---very elegantly romantic, both of them. Perfectly my style.
