~I AM NOT A SHOPAHOLIC....AM I?~

Years ago I loved ships. I used to want a model of an old sailing ship for my home..but I never could afford one. I would have settled for a painting or print of one...but couldn't really afford that either. One day, on one of my junk store adventures, I found this plate and never longed for a ship after that. It must have satisfied the yearning. I have noticed that if I don't get some coveted item, the passion for it eventually seems to leave me. Even if the day comes and I can have it, I walk on by. However..I go on these..buying rampages. I get a feeling like "I HAVE to go find something! Anything! What if THE item that is perfect is out there and someone else finds it!! I HAVE to GO!" :) And I have to say, there is something satisfying about it. It fullfills some need in me. Decorating, for me, is actually a reason to get up in the morning. I think it has kept me going at times of sorrow and loss. It is truly a passion and I have had it since I was 17 and a newly wed. Anyway...I love my plate. Do you really think there is such a thing as a "shopaholic?" I don't think I am that far gone..or should I say I have never thought of myself as such. Hmmm...I need to think about this. I always thought you were a shopaholic if you bought things you didn't have money for and had to charge them..got yourself in trouble in that way? No? Naw...I can't be one of those...
I mean I don't buy things just to be buying things and then take them back. I HATE returning something though I must say I am quicker to take something back that is flawed or won't work etc. than I used to be. Has someone told me I'm a shopaholic..well..yes they have. I mean it was never a HUGE deal..but I was teased a bit. I have things to do..I'll think about this tomorrow. :)

  1. No Your not even close to be a shopaholic! They buy things until the money is gone and then continues to buy things anyway.

Lovely plate. I grwe up by the ocean in Gotheburg and love old ships. The ocean is the only thing I miss from there. Nothing compares to the smell from the ocean a warm summer night and it´s even better if one can sleep in ones own sailboat :-)

  2. I like your thinking.... I'll think about it tomorrow. I was reading your profile, wow two husbands passing away w/ cancer. My brother in law is fighting liver cancer right now. Well I don't know if fighting it is really the correct term. He is dying. He's been w/ us 2 1/2 months since his diagnosis. He is hanging in there. He is in his mid 50's. This is not a good time for us as you are all to aware of. I'm glad you stopped by my blog. As you have noticed it is mostly very silly. I think we need a break from all the seriousness sometimes.
I will talk to you again. Oh, and I think you may be a shopaholic.

  4. Michelle...I have GOT to stop reading that book over and over. I have had it for about 25 years, same book. It is taped together with packing tape and scotch tape.
I think it is an escape book for me. And, yes, Scarlett did say "after all, tomorrow IS another day" and I sort of live by that. She was a little poop wasn't she? :) Strong though.
Thanks for stopping by. Very sweet of you.

  5. Oh, my! You've stumped me well and truly with this one, Mona. I am actually experiencing a bit of the reverse syndrome these days - not at all keen to get to the shops! Obviously, we have to eat and we need stuff, but if I don't have to go, I don't (or even when I DO have to, I often rope my poor husband into doing it for me!)

I wouldn't say you're a shopaholic in the strict sense of the word, though. Just someone who passionately loves a really great find, when you can afford it, and THAT can, and does, sometimes happen in splurges :) Especially when you are decorating!
