~A QUAKE AND RATTLED NERVES...and now we wait..

Hi..  just a quick note about the earthquake.  Frightening but nothing broke.  All the teacups are back in place..but none fell.  Just a bit of shifting.  A good bit of swinging of the chandelier.  A jolt and then rolling.
Having been born here and been through many of them..you would think they wouldn't bother me...but they terrify me!  Always have.
I was in the bedroom on the cell phone with my DIL when suddenly it felt like someone gave the bed a good jerk..and then a slight rolling sensation which got stronger and stronger  and then I screamed for PH..the dog began barking..the house phone rang (neighbor calling also frightened) and my dear PH rushed into the bedroom where I was rooted to the bed.  It stopped..and we just looked at one another without speaking...
We immediately turned on the news...and what a mess places are in La Habra.   Broken bottles...wine flowing all over the floors in a market...
A terrible mess.  Broken water main...a rock slide.  And they told us there could even be a bigger one.
We have had three just in the past couple of weeks...each bigger than the last one.

We don't have all the things we should have.  No first aid kit but we do have enough that we could get along I hope.  Lots of food and water..but certainly not enough to last two weeks as they suggest.
This..was a wake up call..and truthfully I am nervous.
No use to be nervous, because not a single thing I can do about it.
Wish us luck.  We just may need it!

My love to you,
Mona

  2. OK Mona, You live in an area where this does happen, grew up along with earthquakes and you do NOT have a first aid kit and ceertain other supplies you might need. I do not want to see you sitting on the curb and unprepared. Get those supplies in that you might need. They may just save a life one day or save one of yours. YOU tell PH to temporarily stop shining that mirror up here, we can do without his kind sunshine for a day and go out and get caught up on the supple supply you might need. That would have scared the heck outta me....and Jack too. Take care Kiddo n PH too lol

  3. Mona how scary for you. I certainly will say prayers for you. I hope the earth has had enough rumbles and there is no more.
I would feel frightened as well.
    Big safe hugs Kay

  6. Stay safe, Mona... hopefully these quakes of late will settle down soon. You need to prepare an emergency kit for you and PH. Maybe a battery operated radio too in case all power were to go out, so you could stay in touch with the outside world... xox

  10. I was going to scold you for not being prepared, but after the above comments...I don't have to do that. Make it a fun project....make it a blog post, so we all can rest assured that Mona and Howard are prepared.
    Don't put it off please.
    Hugs from Balisha

(Now I'm going to get my tornado kit together)

  11. I can't imagine how frightened you must have been....so glad you are ok! We don't have quakes here in New Mexico...we have tornado's ...and they are pretty scary! A few years ago we had one hit just down the street from us and go on over to our daughters area and right down here street. Lots of damage! Have a wonderful week end...we are off to a big auction today! Hugs, Penny

  13. Oh Mona, I was so scared - a had a lot of breakage of dishes. The chanties were swing like a bunch of monkeys had been on them. All of the crystals on the chanty in the living room fell of and broke. Pictures off the wall and the garage was a mess. We have had 35 after shocks but I didn't feel all of them. The dogs were terrified along with me - for some reason this one really bothered me.
I got all of the broken dishes cleaned up. Went into the garage to be sure the water heater was okay and a lot of my spray cans were all over the floor - so there is a mess to clean up out there.
Need to vacuum to get up all the glass chard's up. My neighbor came over to be sure I was okay and if there was any thing she could do.
I sure hope we are finished, they said on the news that some homes and buildings are red tagged.
I do have supplies and my back pack ready - just need to go through and check expiration dates.
Take care of your self and thank God is wasn't worse.
    xxoo

  15. I've been following the news about Your latest earth quakes and I hope it calms down now.

We actually had ione here too Thursday morning, You would most likely not have noticed it though :-) They are tiny here but for us not used to them it's another thing.

I remember the biggest ever recorded here, 4,3 on the Richter scale I think it was and I don't think I'll ever forget that feeling when the earth moved and it sounded like hundreds of trucks were speeding down the roads, very odd.

Take care and get one of those first aid kits now!
    Christer.

  16. I read about the earthquakes and thought about you. How scary! We had a small tremor a few years ago in the middle of the night. I happened to be awake and it was scary wondering if the New Madrid fault was going to go haywire. You and PH take care of yourselves and stay safe!

  17. Oh my . . . I heard your scream all the way here in Michigan. Now that would scare me too . . . For goodness sakes, what do you do, no warning or nothing. Be safe my dear. . . .

  22. When I heard about the quake today my first thoughts were about you! I'm so glad you're OK but please go get the items you need to be prepared incase you need to leave. A 72hr kit in a backpack for you & PH & don't forget items for the dog! Hopefully you'll never need them. take care dear Mona. The snowstorm we have raging outside right now seems mild compared to everything going on out West!

  24. That must have been very scary for you. We have had a few small quakes here in St. Louis in recent years. The ones I have experienced have been pretty mild, mostly rattled the windows. The last one rattled the windows so much that Fuzzy started growling and barking.

It is starting tornado and hail season around here. Mother Nature can be somewhat nerve wracking. I, too, need to get a first aid kit with all supplies in one place. I believe I have most of the supplies we would need , but they are not all in one kit, but in various closets, medicine cabinets, and drawers. Am putting it on this week's to do list.

I hope that things settle down there.

    Take care.

  25. When I heard about the earthquake tonight I immediately thought of you. So glad you are all right. I've been in only two earthquakes and both of them were very frightening. Please try to get things to be prepared. Better to have it and not need it.

  26. I only ever experience one Earthquake. I was a seminar in Los Angeles in 1986 and one hit when we were on the 20th (?) floor of a building. It was terrifying...there is that feeling of being totally out of control which freaks me out. I don't envy you the weather because you have the downside of earthquakes. Good luck, Mona. I keep you and your state in my prayers- xo Diana

  28. Dear Mona - So glad you are ok! My mom used to tell a story about experiencing tremors while they were in California and she was pregnant with me. Very scary! Several years ago when I was teaching they were predicting an earthquake from the New Madrid Fault. Every classroom had to make an emergency kit. We had earthquake drills nearly every week. Fortunately, the "big one" didn't occur - but we were as ready as we could be. I'll be praying for you and everyone in your area and hoping things will settle down. Hugs - Rhonda

  29. Dearest Mona-
I cannot imagine what it must be like to live with an ever-present threat of earthquakes, but I do know for certain that I would never become blasé. It must be tremendously unsettling, not knowing when one will occur, or what the outcome will be. No wonder you are haunted by dreams of being lost and alone!

I am so glad you have acknowledged the need to be better prepared and hope you will have taken action to acquire the necessary provisions. That ought to assist with giving you some peace of mind. I certainly hope that you will never need to use them!

    Huge hug,
    Desiree xxx

  31. Wow. A scary experience, not to mention the threat of more earthquakes waiting to happen!
    Glad you're okay.

  32. Hi Mona...glad you are ok and your property was not damaged. In my part of the country we live close to the San Madras fault and they keep saying one day it will go off big time. We have had little quakes from time to time but nothing like the 1900 earthquake. Guess there is really nothing you can do about it except pray and hold on!

  33. Dear Jean..of course you are right..and I don't sit around waiting for it..but enough has happened to make you think about it.
For awhile. Isn't that how people are? :)

  34. Yes Mona...you are correct! Try not to let it bother you tho. You have to many other things to think about and do. I think it just moves to get our attention to let us know it's still there! LOL!
