~IT'S A NEW DAY and new choices...

A brand spanking new day and I vow to appreciate every single moment of it.  It seems I am always rushing to get to the next day and often fail to appreciate TODAY!  I know, I know, me too!
I have read about living in the moment and I do!  Usually.  But when you suddenly realize a milstone in your life has passed ....nearly a month ago and you thought it was only day before yesterday, it is time to stop and breath deeply.

Count your blessings..say a prayer for those who are trying to gather the remenants of their lives about them who have been hit by tradgedy!
I am!

Soooo...to start my day today (after coffee and my lovely pastry with bj, :) I am on to the joys of the day and expect the best.
Do you wonder about someone who ...iron's everything they can get their hands on...
I mean really...tell the truth?? :)

...or doesn't iron ANYTHING unless it's absolutely necessary??

..or flat REFUSES to iron anything and isn't sure she still owns an iron??

...or are you one that says "WHAT THE HECK IS AN IRON??"

However you think of it..it's ok!  You BET it is!!  As for me, I LOVE to pick out ironing board covers and delight in finding a fantastic iron!  I love seeing everything smooth and lovely when I open drawers and even quickly press my dishtowels.  Crazy?  Probably, but to me it's PURE joy that I have the time now to do that!  Remember, I raised seven children all 13 to 15 months apart!

My choice of ironing board covers???

LIFE IS JUST A BOWL OF CHERRIES!! :)

Love and hugs,
Mona
P.S.  Don't worry about me.  I'm ok! *grin*

  1. Iron? What is that? Seriously, the only time I iron is when I am sewing. As soon as the dryer dings, I shake and fold and things look fine, to me anyway. Have a good day.

    1. There are a few things I shake and hang and think they are just fine..then end up pressing them a bit anyway. To me it's just fun, I think.

  2. I think ironing came from our generation. My mom ironed everything and I do too. Well not everything, but almost. I need a new ironing board cover, I just notice the other day that mine is getting a little rag tag. Love all the ones you show. Enjoy the day. Hugs, Marty

  3. Miss Mona,

Yes, we worry about you. Now don't make me come out there. Between me and Abby we will make you scream. Giggle.

  4. I know there is a pride in freshly pressed clothing. Mother used to iron the sheets! She instilled that pride in me but it leaked out.

I am from the washer/dryer generations and avoid ironing like the plague. I have a wonderful fancy iron that is available if needed. She sits pretty, waiting for me, mostly for when I'm sewing, I do like flat seams.

I am grateful for fitting in a few loads of folded laundry.

When I retire, maybe I'll iron but probably not, I think I'll paint.

    1. Like Marty says, I think it was something we inherited from our generation...the 50's you know. Always had to have the whitest clothes on the block and the shinest kitchen floors. Ironing came in there somewhere and if you didn't do it yourself you hired it done! I was never so lucky!

  5. Mona- How is it that I have never run across your blog before? I saw you over at Bj's blog today and I felt compelled to come find you! AND...when I saw your IRONING post I knew I had found a new friend. I'm with you- I used to even iron my kid's undershirts....sad, but true. I LOVE to see all my nicely ironed linens stacked neatly on a shelf or in a drawer waiting for their "turn" to be used.

I am so happy to have found you and now I am going to sign up as your newest follower! You're not gonna get rid of me just yet~ Hugs- Diana

  6. HI Mona, I have an iron. It came along when we moved from CA to TX. I have an ironing board. It too came along when we moved. I actually know where both of them are. Iron is on the top shelf of the cabinet in the laundry room. The Board is in the garage....covered in cobwebs, rust, and odd stains on the formerly cute ironing board cover. Why do I keep them if I don't use them, you might ask. Well, I think its because my mother would come and haunt me if she ever found out that I did not own an iron!! So I have an iron.... :)

  8. Hi Mona...

Just stopping in to say hello, sweet lady! Ohhh boy...I certainly can relate with all that you said...especially of late! Where does the time go to? I have always been sooo good at "living in the moment"...I truly need to get back to that way of life! Sending you big hugs and prayers today, dear friend!

    Love ya,
    Chari

PS...on the subject of ironing...I hardly ever iron! It isn't my favorite thing to do! wink! Those sure are some pretty ironing board covers though!

    1. Aren't they pretty thought. Found these on Etsy! A pretty ironing board is the ONLY pretty thing where I have to do laundry..which is in the GARAGE!! :(

  9. Mona, I like things to be ironed too. It just feels better that way. I have even wrapped tissue paper that I'm recycling for gifts. Bet you have too. :)

  10. You must meet my Mother...the queen of the ironing board. I'm the "I hate to iron" person. But I will if I have too. Every time I balk at ironing something Jack always threatens to call my Mom! Maybe I just need a pretty cover for my ironing board to push me along!

  11. I used to always iron Hubby's dress shirts for work. Now I rarely do, and if they look to bad, he gets out the iron and does it himself. I would do it, but this house has such a tiny laundry room and it's not easy setting up the ironing board. When and if we move again I am holding out for a large laundry room like I used to have. Some things in life are simply a must.

  12. Well my ironing board is not pretty, Just plain silver, although I Iron my tea towel as well, but I don't iron sheets. That would be taking things too far for me. Fold them nicely and press down in the linen press is OK for sheets.

  14. This post reminds me I need a new ironing board cover. I'm ashamed how bad mine now looks!!! I hate ironing but at least I do it. I don't think my DIL knows what an iron is!!!

  15. Love your positive attitude. You are right on the money! I too love to see everything perfectly ironed and folded, but ironing sadly remains the bane of my life. I can never get caught up! You have definitely offered a different slant and I shall remember you each time I iron from now on and I'll try to do my own ironing with a contentment that up till now has evaded me. What a sweetie you are, Mona. I truly love you :)

  16. I always iron what I put on each day. I must! Can't stand to put on something and have it look like I was sleeping in it. HA I love your ironing board covers. I have a leopard one which I enjoy. Those Rowena Irons are the best. Don't know if you have one. Happy ironing. xoxo Kim @ Bluebirds and Butterflies

  17. Love the bowl of cherries cover! I also love to wear ironed clothing. And there is nothing nicer than slipping into bed after a hectic day and the sheets smell like a field of flowers and are crispy and ironed! Have a great new week xx

  18. Hi Mona! Oh, I'm like you - I iron! Now I don't iron my hubby's shirts anymore, I used to and really didn't enjoy that. But I love to iron my tablecloths and as I sew and make stuff - my ironing board is up all the time! ;) I love pretty covers too and love that dark one with cherries. Right now I have a toile fabric cover but I need some of that fluffy stuff underneath!
Hope you're doing okay and thank you so much for popping into see me.
    be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  19. Even though I go through great lengths not to iron...(I have all kinds of tricks) I have a primitive wood cabinet which houses a drop down ironin' board. This is how much I iron. My cover looks much like the first material only it has lace and bows added. Really...it's quite the sight! Heeehehehehe!!!

Believe me when I say it only gets used once in a blue moon!

God bless and have yourself an excellent time livin' in the moment sweetie!!! :o)

  20. Hi Mona,
I just come from visiting BJ.
I admit to you right now I don't care for ironing; my arms never worked that good for me to enjoy it and now forget about it...
Your lovely post made me stop and think about life, so today I will look for the sunny side and a bowl of cherries. Have a great week.

  21. Oh my word! I'm not one that irons with joy...in fact, I hate to iron. I won't go out without things being pressed though...just don't iron tea towels, etc. :-) My dear friend's mother still does that so it's something that some enjoy and others don't. I'm so glad I found your blog!

  22. Beautiful ironing board covers, Mona, but I don't need them. I try not to iron, I just throw the clothes back in the dryer if they are wrinkled, lol. What a cute singing voice!...Chruistine

  24. You are too cute, Mona. I love the cherries but would have to have pink or roses.
Yes, I love things ironed & neatly stored ... with the help of the dry cleaners.
Emily is such a beauty ...
    Have a great week.

  25. Mona, while I have an ironing board, which may even have the original cover, it gets used very little. Usually pull it out of the laundry room to steam wrinkles out of the window curtains after laundering. Thankfully, this is only a once or twice a year process.

  26. Although I DO love to iron, I don't do it very often AT ALL! That's probably why I love to do it! :)
AND, I had the same old yucky, torn cover for years, until I just happened upon some pretty ones at Home Goods. I bought one right then, and really have enjoyed ironing even more! Now THAT'S just weird, isn't it? Don't worry, I'll NEVER be a Martha Stewart! Thanks for a fun post, Mona~
