We remember...those who are serving, those who didn't come home...
..and those who have served in other wars..
I married a young Marine, Patrick, when I was just 17 years old. It is not an easy life. And to be honored for his service in the Military would have made him so happy. Unfortunately he served during Korea and then Vietnam, and did not come home to parades and flying flags.
I am so glad things have changed for the young men today and that they come home to something better than Pat did.
I had hoped and so did he, that there would be no more wars like Korea and then Vietnam, but it wasn't to be.
In some ways I am glad he didn't live to see that war is happening once again.
God bless all our men and their families who are caught up in it.
Love and hugs,
Mona
What a wonderful tribute!
ReplyDeleteNice tribute...my Dad was a proud Marine, too (WWII).
ReplyDeleteI stand in complete agreement with you! I was just a little girl back in the Vietnam days, but I remember the sight of brave soldiers returning to open signs of contempt. It was our great national shame. I pray that those who would try to turn the tide in that direction again would be overcome by those of us who stand in grateful admiration at the sight of an American soldier.
ReplyDeleteThank your veteran for me!
The whole Viet Nam was was so sad. So sad that our soldiers were treated like they were. I never dreamed that one of my sons would serve two years (separate ones) in the Middle East.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your posts so much. You are one of my favorites for sure.

What a sweet post, Mona. I always wish for peace and appreciate all our veterans....Christine
ReplyDeleteI think it must be hard for the Korea and Vietnam veterans when they hear all the thanks and accolades. So many have come rather late to the understanding of the sacrifice these young people made - I hope there's comfort for the older vets in this new acknowledgement. Of course, it must be so difficult for them to see that for all their huge efforts, the world is still not at peace.
ReplyDeleteHi Mona! Very sweet post. My Daddy served in the Army during WWII!
