~ AN 'A' FOR EFFORT?~

Maybe not...but it's fun to play with dishes..and Fall flowers and silverware..
I'm playing with the big girls now...and it's intimidating...very intimidating..but what the heck..
:):)

A few days ago, daughter #3 came for a short visit and in no time flat was opening pumpkins with lids and searching every container she could find for "Candy Corn."
It is something that is always in our home from September on...

...there was NONE..not a single sweet kernel!

I got a sad look..when she heard I had not bought it yet...but soon...I promised...soon Sweetie...
So..yesterday Sweet Patient husband brought home two large bags...

I feel better!  You know??

The Chargers are from Pottery Barn..and oh how I wish I had bought six of them!

The little Quail salt and peppers are from Fitz and Floyd...
My tablescape was very quickly put together.. it really is fun to do!

...but I wanted to join in the fun...Fall comes but once a year...and it seems so short a time..
Autumn colors go so quickly...
The china is by Nortaki.  Its a set of 8 that I found at a garage sale for $35.00.  It came with platters, gravy bowl, vegetable dish, cups and saucers, salad plates and dessert plates!
The only thing it didn't come with them was a name.  On the back is the letter M and when I looked it up it said that Nortaki made china at one time that they didn't name.
It is simply called  "Mystery" china.
Isn't that interesting?
This sterling silver is called "Prelude" and it from the 1930's.
Some of you might remember this garage sale find, set of 8 for just $10.00.  It was even in a silverware chest.  I looked the set up on the computer and it was worth $4100.  And that was not including the four gorgeous serving spoons..  Not even sure the little butter knives were included in that price.
If that doesn't make you want to get your bottom dollar out of bed early on a Saturday morning and go to the garage sales...I don't know what will.
I love the delicate pattern.  Fall?  Spring? Summer?   I think it works for all seasons.
I'm joining (as always a bit late) Between Naps on The Porch for Tablescape Thursday...

 "Are we done, Mom?

Yep, Mele, we're all done!

Hugs,
Mona

  2. Oh, Mele is soooo precious. Look at that sweet little puppy face.

Miss Mona, Mom says that you can make those chargers very easily. She said to e-mail her if you need help. "Piece of cake" she is saying. She is funny, but she knows a bunch about crafts.

  3. I'm lying on the floor--dead and gone--CANNOT believe your fortune on the china and silver. It's so beautiful. I have a throw the exact fabric as your table cloth thingy. My daughter got married this summer and was wondering if she'd get a stocking this Xmas ;). How's that for a stream-of-consciousness comment?

  4. Woohoo!!! I do remember the silver you purchased. It is just like the set of my Mom's I have. She has every blessed servin' platter, cake server, cuttin' knife, relish dish that was made to go with. Who know it was so priceless?

I to love the candy corn. Ya know if you scoop up some candy corn with some peanuts it tastes just like a Pay Day candy-bar. Just sayin'!!!

Girl, believe me you have everything it takes to keep up with the big girls and then some. Dear lady you are so very creatively talented. :o)

God bless and have an amazin' evenin' sweetie!!!!

  5. Most women would die and go to heaven for that box of silverware you got for $10. And aren't Fitz and Floyd just the cutest. They have something for every occasion, don't they?

  7. Hi Mona,
I love your pretty fall table setting and if you threw that together quickly then I'd love to see what you could do with several hours!
I love me some candy corn too. I remember going to my Mom's and always going to the cupboards to look for candy.

I also love looking at your beautiful family pics on your sidebar. I see they have their Mom's good looks.

  8. I just love your tablescape. The Noritake china is so beautiful and the sterling is exquisite. That is the deal of a century. I own 3 sets of silverplate and love all of them but would love to own sterling someday.

  9. I am glad that I am not the only one that hasn't bought the candy corn, yet!
Lovely table, Mona! Your china is probably circa 1940's by the sound of the backstamp. The pattern also looks to be about then.
Have a great weekend...go out yard saling and find more treasures.

  10. Hi Mona...

Ohhh...your autumn table is GORGEOUS, my friend! I love autumn too...love everything about it! Ohhh my goodness, I can't believe what a great deal that you got on that fabulous set of china! I love the soft yellow on the band and all of those petite flowers...sooo pretty! Ohhh...and if the bargain china wasn't enough...you show us your fabulous silver! Girl, I just about fell out of my chair when I read that you only paid $10. And...it's such a beautiful pattern...I love, love, LOVE IT!!! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful autumn with us...I sooo enjoyed it!!!

Mona, I'm not sure if you have been to Gloria's blog lately. I know that you are good friends. Her daughter posted earlier tonight that Gloria had complications after the angiogram yesterday. They ended up rushing her into surgery and did a triple bypass. Dawna said that Gloria is in Intensive Care. My heart just dropped when I read the news...if fact, I can't sleep! She is sooo dear to me! Anyway, I wanted to let you know. Please help me pray, dear lady!

    love you,
    Chari

Oh, how I would love to sit at such a beautifully set table! You definitely deserve an A + for creativity and effort, not to mention the love that has gone into setting it up.

I've never eaten or heard of Candy Corn!
