~YOU NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU ASK...a garage sale tale.. ~

The porch is ready for Fall and Halloween and I refuse to do one more thing to it.
Everytime I go out there...I remember hearing someone say.."Whenever you leave the house..remove one accessory!"  Are we ever really happy, totally, with anything we have done...or is it just me?!  Probably just me... *sigh*

Enlarge the photo below...and you will see exactly what I mean!

I bought new hanging floral baskets a couple of days ago...and hung the old ones out under the trees.  They need to be replanted...so..in the Springtime...that is my chore.  DO THE BASKETS!  I promise myself this each year...and then...buy new ones!  I HAVE to stop doing that!

Yesterday, Sweet Husband tore all the old Red Apple ground cover out and treated the soil with amend..and today, in went the new flowers.  Doesn't look too great right  now, but give it a few months. Ok, maybe until next year this time...

I got my pumpkins out front, finally...added a bit of color...and I swear to you, I'm DONE!  OH, and I added some new Fall flowers to the beautiful mosiac flower pot that Penny @THE COMFORTS OF HOME made for me!  I LOVE that pot!!  (Enlarge to see the apple of my eye in the distance...and the center of my story below.)

Yes, I know the flowers are puny... but you just wait!  One of these days...some time in the distant future..I hope, I hope!
And...this is my BIG pumpkin..at least for this neck of the woods.

Another view of our porch...and my little bistro table...LOVE that table..and it is as near Cindy's @ APPLESTONE COTTAGE as I could get it!  I am SUCH a copy cat!

Ok...here is today's garage sale story.
Not a lot of garage sales today..and those that were out there yielded nothing...and then it happened!
We followed the garage sale sign and drove up in front of a yard filled with lots of things...but I saw nothing..because I had seen what I wanted!  This little pale yellow wheelbarrow filled to the brim with flowers..and exactly the size I wanted!

I found the lady of the home and asked her if the little wheelbarrow was for sale..KNOWING full well what the answer would be..as it was tucked into a little flower garden.  She smiled said, "Oh no, that is mine and it's not for sale."    I smiled back and said "Are you sure?"  She said.."Well, what would you pay for it?" and I countered with "Well, what do you want for it?"  She said "Let me just go inside and talk to my husband." and off she went.  In few moments she returned and said.."He drives a hard bargain...he said forty dollars,"  I said "Thirty!" and she said "Thirtyfive" and I said "SOLD!"

Which proves, you never know until you ask!  :)

I also found, on the way home..a beautiful pure white cable knit sweater for $3.00!
I DO LOVE Saturdays!

Lovn'hugs,
Mona

Mona, your home is so lovely and I think it's perfectly fine. I love the pumpkins out front. I really need to get to the pumpkin patch and get me a couple before they are gone!

Lucky girl to have gotten your heart's desire. You are so right, it pays to ask. The wheelbarrow is just adorable!

And since you brought home a flower-filled wheelbarrow, may I ask---what on earth do you TRAVEL in on Saturdays?

Gee, I wish I had a real porch!! They look so wonderful. Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever lived in a house with a porch. Oh, where did I go wrong???? ;)

It looks like summer to me looking at Your photos :-) It has been raining for over 24 hours here now and we really doesn´t need more rain :-) :-)

I´m useless at bargain so I would most probably have payed even more than they wanted just so I wouldn´t have to do it :-) :-) :-)

Have a great day now!

Hi Mona,
Your place looks just beautiful. Love all your little details; must have been a lot of work. I've had to slow down so my decor is pretty scarce anymore; that's life I guess.

Hi Mona,
Everything looks just so pretty and so well done!
You have great taste and a great eye for decorating and I wouldn't change a thing!
I'm so flattered that you painted your bistro table red like mine, it looks so charming!
And hubby did a wonderful landscaping job out there!
The leaves on our trees have just about all fallen off and we are looking a little bleak around here right now.
Have a lovely week my friend!

Mona, so lovely to hear from you, it's been so long since I visited... and I just could NOT believe when I saw your wheelbarrow. Go to my Oct 4th post, where I first posted when I planted my spinach and check out the wheelbarrow I just brought home from my gramma's house in Ohio a few weeks ago... it is just exactly like your wheelbarrow!!!! I loved my gramm's when I saw it in her garage... when we had the garage sale back in June, I had several people want to buy it, and I said no, it wasn't for sale, I was going to take it back to KS with me... and I finally brought it home in September! With the intent to leave it rough and rustic and plant flowers in it, but believe it or not, it has been usable in addition to our other wheelbarrow, so maybe I won't plant flowers after all... or I thought, maybe use it for chicken feed when I feed the chickens we hope to get next spring. LOL

Anyway, I am rambling, I know, just wanted to say it was lovely to hear from you!!! :-) And your porch is beautiful, such a right fine settin' porch!

Hello sweet lady...

Girl, I do declare that you have the prettiest porch, gardens, and lawn!!! Wow...I can't believe that everything is still so green and lush...and that your flowers are all still in bloom! You should see my place. The trees have been beautiful in their autumn dress and then today the wind came up something fierce and blew most of those gorgeous autumn leaves right off of the trees! It just makes me sick. Anyway, I really enjoyed all of your pretties and I'm just tickled pink about your pretty yellow wheelbarrow full of flowers! Girl, you're just too cute! But you're absolutely right...you don't know until you ask! Hehe! By the way, I think you got a great deal on that! Ohhh yes...and I just adore your beautiful red bistro set! You and Cindy definitely have a "corner market" going on those pretty table and chairs! wink! Well sweet friend, you have a fabulous day!

Warmest autumn wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design

Mona, your porch and yard are fabulous! ...love, love, love the wheelbarrow flowerbed. Pray tell, did you wheel it home or have to heft it up into a pickup?

Wsprsweetly Of Cottages said...

lol I hefted it up into a pickup...or rather two people did. Not me. :) I am so glad you like it. I was surprised she sold it...as I didn't expect her to. We were really..I thought, sort of kidding back and forth..but ..she sold it and I was delighted!

LOL! Girl have you got nerve or what! I guess everything is for sale if the price is right. You certainly couldn't buy a a wheelbarrow, potting soil, and plants for #35. I can't believe they let it go.

Thanks for checking in on me. I'm much better and finally got the computer to myself so I'm trying to catch up a little tonight. I've missed you and everyone so much these last few weeks!

Your yard looks so pretty! I think your flowers are wonderful. We have to water like crazy just to get them to grow up the hill here :-) The little wheelbarrow looks so pretty too. You've got me thinking now, we have one out in our backyard. Of course, I'd fill it with flowers and then hubby would need it for something :-)
Have a wonderful weekend!
Blessings,
Marcia
P.S. I'm having a giveaway on my blog :-)
