~FINALLY...AFTER A FIVE YEAR HUNT..~

Have you ever wanted some item for your home..or to add to your Christmas decor? Well I have. I have wanted a lovely pair of ice skates, all embellished for Christmas. I found a pair on ebay about five years ago but was outbid and I darn near cried. The price went very high so I was probably lucky.
The ones I found this time are very similar and I WON them! I have learned with every loss. My worst enemy is forgetting! Yeah, I do that now. :) I wonder why?!

I hope you like them as much as I do! Please enlarge the photo to get the full effect...same on the bottom pic. :) Now be nice..ok? :)

Aren't they lovely? Of course if you are not into skates..and by the way, the artist aske me to play the skaters waltz on the piano for her. I said I would. :)

Here is a distance shot of the piano which is where I wanted them to sit. (sigh..) I am so pleased with them! Please enlarge photo as they sort of blend in I guess...

The LR tree is nearly finished. I am about two days behind and using every excuse in the book as to why I am not done. I know some of you are so on top of it...but not me. Slow as the 7 year itch.

I know some put skates on their doors etc, but I wanted to be a little different.
Happy decorating, you sweet people! :)
Mona

  3. I have to admit that those skates were perhaps not in my taste, a little bit to girly for me :-) :-)but I do admire the work put in to them!
Do people have skates on their door? I didn´t know that. I love reading about our different traditions!
    Have a great day now!

  4. The skates are beautiful. Much prettier than the ones that I painted and embellished a few months back. Mine finally sold in my booth but, now I wished I would have kept them.
Wish I could play piano too!
Have a wonderful weekend my dear friend.

  6. I had a nice pair of skates a hundred years ago but unfortunately my mom sold them after I moved away from home...*sighs* Some moms just don't understand.

  9. Mona,

I think they're simply charming!! A very close match (except for the posies) for all the pairs I envied (rollerskates) all the years I had to "rent my skates."

Your finally getting is also for ME, somehow, and I thank you for the gift of the search and the acquiring.

What a lovely thing to find with first cup this morning. We're madly in the midst of preparations for a teaparty for fourteen today at five, so this was a wonderful break from chair skirts, how-many-wineglasses and small sandwiches. (Though Paminna Cheese is a reason to celebrate, all in itself).

Enjoy your fairy skates, and know I'm enjoying them too!!

  12. It really is special when we finally obtain something we've longed for and waited for! They are lovely and now I will probably want some! lol I played some Christmas carols on my piano yesterday....felt so good and familiar. My favorite is Silver Bells.

  13. Woo hoo! These skates were worth the wait. Mona they are gorgeous. Who ever did those is one very talented person.

Don't beat yourself up about being behind on the decorating. It can be a long process. It has been for me for the last two years! HaHa. I love to decorate for Christmas and I use to go all out but working full time and the fact it took me two weekends to decorate and two weekends to take it all down just got too much for me. I have learned to love the simpler side of decorating for the holidays. I go for impact on the things I do decorate. But just wait, if I retire in a couple of years and when the first Christmas rolls around this house will belong in a magazine when I get finished with it!
Hugs and love my friend, Sue

  14. Mona, I love your skates, I have been hunting a pair to paint, but in the South you don't find to many pairs of ice skates, These are just lovely.
Don't feel bad, I have all my inside decorations done..EXCEPT..my tree....sigh...maybe today, got it bought but can't get DH to help put it in stand, but in his defense he has had a bad headache for 3 days and is staying in bed taking his meds.
Thanks for sharing you lovely skates.
    Merry Christmas

  15. Wow Mona, those are beautiful, and so your style! I've never seen skates painted before!
I'm behind on the Christmas decor too, bits and pieces laying about but most is still upstairs and what is down is not arranged yet. December is such a busy time. I'm glad to say I at least got some presents for the kids bought last week.
    Enjoy the season,
    Dawn

  16. Mona, the skates are adorable! The piano is a wonderful place to display them. I should have kept my skates from eons ago and used them for Christmas decorations along with the little sled I have.

  19. Hello Dear Mona,

oh my goodness! These skates are just pinkalicious!!! I have seen them before on e-bay, and they are expensive. I have a vintage pair, and I just drape them on an old sled I have on my front porch. I think you're ahead of me, I don't even have my tree up yet. lol

    Hugs,
    Debbie

  21. The skates are so sweet! I could never decorate to your level because it would overwhelm me I'm more minimalist in my decorating style. If you could call in a style...

I've moved my furniture in preparation for decorating and that's as far as I've gotten. Trying to get up the nerve to ask hubby about decorating the outside. My fault because I've been snappy the last few days.

Your skates turned out so lovely. They add to your piano (of course your playing does that too, I'm sure!) God Bless... Dee Dee

  27. They are just beautiful! I love the glittery blades. I'd be afraid to put them outside for fear they would get ruined by the weather! They look fabulous where you have them!

  34. What beautiful skates and they look just right on the piano. I was looking for a pair of skates at antique stores last weekend and spotted a pair. I am rather short so I asked my tall daughter to read the price to me. She said they are 199. I said oh way to much for me. I thought she meant $199.00 as I knew old skates were rather expensive. But guess what they were just $1.99 so now they live at my house.

I love your blog and will be back.
