~WHAT? NO CELL PHONE?~

This is just a little short story...a day or two..in the lives of PH and I.  For Christmas he recieved a lovely new wallet from my daughter and her husband.  One of the best parts of this gift was that it came in a lovely tin box that really appealed to PH.  He LOVES containers and saves way too many of them..but I admit they do come in handy.  He washes out nice bottles, jars, saves sturdy boxes that certain things from the grocery store come in, that sort of thing.  Pretzels from Costco come this huge clear plastic containers with lids and this year all those saved containers came in so handy for all of our Christmas lights.  NO more searching for the tree lights..they are right there on the shelf where we can see them.  GOOD!
Here is the pretty tin box that his wallet came in.  He LOVED it and showed it to me, talking about all the things he might save in it.  Even offered it to me if I wanted it.  I declined. :)  Not "something I could use" I told him.  He was pleased and went off to fill it with little things at his desk.  He is such a sweetheart.

This is PH's cell phone.  I now have a smart phone with a larger viewing screen, but PH likes his phone and won't part with it.  However....
this tiny device is sometimes so easy to mislay.  One would almost think it had legs and could get right up and walk away.  You see, my sweet PH has lost two already, never to be seen again, and each time we go down and replace them ...not a problem.
This..is his third cell phone.  He watches it VERY carefully, determined not to lose another one.
(ok..it's been "mislaid" a few times but we just call it from my phone and we find it...so far.
But...a couple of days ago he came in the kitchen with a puzzled look on his face.  "Have you seen my cell phone he asked.  "Nope" I say, I'll just call on my phone.  It's around here somewhere.  So I did, but no answer.  We search the house, then the car and finally decide to have Verizon turn it off.  We do that.
It's late in the evening so the searching stops until the next day.  He is sure he left in at the Gym where he had been earlier in the day.  The next morning he heads out to search for his phone at the Gym, but no one has turned it in.
Finally, we have to admit that it's gone...and by now another day is nearly gone.  A girlfriend stops by and suggests if we have an old cell phone that perhaps we can have it reactivated.  WHAT a great idea. I do have an old cell phone!
Three and a half hours later..(NO exaggeration) the old cell phone is still not working and I am worn out and so is my ear.  We give up and decide to go in the following day, get in line and buy a new one.  (No insurance!)  The following day was Sunday, so we decided we would wait until Monday.  EARLY Monday morning about 4 am...I feel someone tapping on my arm..saying "I'm sorry to wake you, but I have to!"  I woke up immediately and said "What's wrong?!"  and turned on the light.  He was smiling this huge smile and said "I FOUND MY CELL PHONE!  I got up to go to the bathroom and suddenly I remembered!  I put it in that little box my wallet came in!!"   It was right there on my desk all this time!  I wouldn't ring because it was in a metal box!  We don't have to  go get a new one this morning!!"

I never did get back to sleep but he did.
End of story

  1. Ha ha!!!!! you could do without being woken up. Poor PH, I'm sure he was very relieved.
Talk about a groovy girl with your smart phone. I still have a mobile that is just a phone. No I must correct myself, it does take photos, but I never use it.
Hope you have a good week.

  2. this is hilarious but if hubby woke me up there would be hell to pay... if i wake up during the night i am UP the rest of the night... fire or thieves would be the only good reason. glad you did not have to buy another one.. i am the one who saves containers, not boxes but plastic containers. i use them for every thing.. i store flour, oat meal, corn meal, sugar in the Maxwell House coffee cans... a matched set.. LOL
and my drawers are organized with little plastic containers. the one thing i throw away hurts me, it is the plastic container that 3 tennis balls come in... i don't collect them, if i have something that i need to store i use it, the rest go in the trash

  4. I save containers too. Bird seed containers are great for pond fish food. Friend in UK sends me presents of food and many of them are in metal containers that must be saved.LOL!Just too good to throw away. I spend a lot of time looking for my cell phone. I swear I think that thing has legs sometimes!

  13. I'm sure that this made many of us smile. It happens at our house too.
Last week my husband (The Great Dane) woke me a 0600 to ask 'what time do you have to leave?'. It was Sunday - not a work day. Could I go back to sleep? Well, like you, that was it for me.

  14. my life revolves around looking for things my husband and the blog tech have misplaced!i am a stickler for always putting things in their proper place so i never lose anything. they drop everything everywhere and can never find anything.

  15. What a sweetie!

Those sweet, like-minded companions are well worth losing sleep over, aren't they? I'm the loser-of-things, and I know there must be eighty-five pairs of glasses buried somewhere in this house.

When you tire of programming phones, come on over here---our new TV came with TWO remotes, and you have to add in the old one for cable, AND the one which controls Sweetpea's DVR for her movies. It's like juggling pies in your lap, to just watch a show.

    Getting a universal one tomorrow.

    love and stay warm!

  17. This was quite a story. I am so glad he found his phone but to wake you up to tell you I am not so sure of. My husband used to collected boxes and I still have some of them. Have a blessed day. Madeline

  18. I am laughing right out loud. That sounds SOOOO much like my husband-especially the waking me to tell me part. MyHero has lost his phone so many times it isn't funny...AND he has lost his wallet...and his credit cards..and whole sets of keys have disappeared never to be found again....should I go on? Maybe MyHero needs to start collecting "special boxes" to put things in! Loved your story, Mona! xo Diana

  19. We misplace things all the time especially when we put them in a "safe place".

  20. Another good reason not to be so organized! Atleast that used to be my kids excuse for not cleaning their rooms...it's easier to find my stuff if it's laying all over the floor. Of course I'm not of that belief but maybe just a bit less neat might help PH! Maybe all the other lost phones are really hidden in a box that's hidden on a shelf somewhere...just sayin'! (I did get a good chuckle from this! Thanks!)

  21. I've done things like this! And BG would have gone right back to sleep easily, too, and I would have stayed awake after being woke up. :)

  22. He is exactly like my husband except for one thing - my husband would find it after we got a new one!

  23. Glad it was found.Sounds like something I would do. I bet he was in trouble for waking you, hah. My husband can't find the charger to his phone. He thought I did something, of course. Get some sleeptonight.

  24. See....my question always has been, why does the snorer get to stay in the bed and the snoree go on the couch...Different story but still an issue of sleep!!

  25. I loved that story! Saving containers and little boxes is usually a good thing. :-) I don't think I would have been able to fall back to sleep after that revelation either.
