(Mele thinks all the picture taking MUST be about her!)
I save everything, almost, and had saved these old brackets. Now I know why.
There were four of them and only three have turned up but I decided to spray them Colonial Red and add them to the porch. Yep. They match the trim..and the shutters..and I like them.
The fourth one will appear sooner or later.. :)
This is what they looked like before I took spray paint to them..
Interesting how little things like this can give you a boost! The funny thing must have been watching Patient Husband and I get those things attached. I probably got in the way more than I helped. Every time the man gets up on a ladder lately, I am right there with my hand on his butt or on his leg..
Over protective...probably! :)
AND they match my newly painted flower pot..which used to be charcoal gray.
Now if the other bracket turns up... well...look at it like this. It keeps us busy! :)
Heart on the front door...
I found this pretty glass bead at a second hand store yesterday and added it...
Now it looks like this! :)
Yesterday I went off alone to a second hand shop in an alley...and came home with more than just that glass bead. I'll show you tomorrow!
Garage sale Saturday with my daughter and husband was SO much fun...
I've been polishing THIS for the past two days...
I bought the entire box for $5.00. There were a couple of sterling pieces in the box but the rest was silver plate, which I love. My collection is growing and growing. Today I began sorting...
Knives are scarce for some reason. I wonder what people do with the dinner knives?
No complete sets, yet, but it's so much fun seeing so many pretty patterns...and watching go them from an ugly blackened mess to such beauty. I like to mix and match anyway. It's hard to believe that people get rid of such lovely things..instead of polishing them and enjoying their beauty.
Tell me...do you polish your silver? It's a little work but so worth it...
Which way do you like or ...like many, not at all?
Have a wonderful Wednesday and thank you for sticking with me. I love you for it!!
Love'n hugs,
Mona
Hi Miss Mona,
ReplyDeleteDid you forget, teddy bears and puppy dogs RULE! Of course your world revolves around Mele - she knows that, and so do YOU. Giggle.
Hugs,
Prudence
First up, I don't think over-protectiveness has anything to do with Hubby up a ladder at all. I think you're just grabbing the chance to 'catch a feel' while he's in a vulnerable position. After all, it's quite clear your heart's all soft and 'lovey-dovey' this being the month of romance and all :)
ReplyDeleteI love your new, pretty red additions to the outside of your home and I see you're all geared up with plenty of red for Valentine's Day inside as well. Yes, I do of course know that red is your favorite colour and this month is providing you with the ideal opportunity to flaunt it. Your cutlery collection is impressive. I picked up some little treasures from a couple of flea markets and secondhand shops while I was visiting my Mum & Dad in the UK a few years back (before they emigrated to Australia) and they were exactly as you described. Blackened and unappealing, but I knew they'd reveal their beauty and lustre with some good old elbow grease. They are very precious to me and I clean them, firstly by wiping all over with a sponge dipped in liquid silver cleaner, then I use a silver polish and finally buff them up to a glorious shine using a micro fibre cloth.
Desiree, I clean my silver the exact same way! First (on the badly tarnished ones) I use the liquid..rinse and then follow up with the paste. Leaves them just beautiful. Actually, the beauty lasts a long time. If you do them when they first begin to tarnish..they are really no trouble. I have given my daughters so much of it...but they appreciate it so it makes me happy.
DeleteOK, blogger chose to seize up on me before I was finished! Last, but definitely most importantly, I wanted to tell Mele I send her lots of cuddles. She is such a little sweetheart and she can definitely be in as many pictures as she pleases. I love seeing her!
ReplyDeleteShe is so well behaved that I count myself fortunate. She just wants to please. I have had her since she was as about as big as my hand. TONS of fur.. It is sooo great seeing you here commenting. :) SO great!
DeleteHer pictures looks like she's trying to catch a falling heart...so cute! I bet you have some beautiful pieces of silver. Lovely table settings you must get! Have a lovely day and hope you find the last bracket, they're lovely too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa. Mele means the world to me.. :)
DeleteThe only silver I have is tin foil! No, do have a few pieces but do not like the polishing so I pass them on to an unsuspecting heir as soon as I can.
ReplyDeleteLove the collander behind the silver. And absolutely love the good metal brackets.
Silver is for folks that don't have a farm to run, children to raise and a lot on their plates...but..there is something so nice about it. Makes me feel rich when I am broke! :) You like the metal brackets? Probably over doing the red out front..but what the heck! I like it.
DeleteAnd..I'm glad you like it.
First off, the red brackets are a wonderful addition to the porch as is the flower pot and holder. The heart on the door is lovely as well. As for the silver, I used to have some beautiful pieces but gave them away as I really didn't care for the polishing. Looking forward to seeing your latest garage sale finds.
ReplyDeleteGarage sales ruins you for stores, even Goodwill. :)
DeleteI love your red brackets and hope you find the missing piece soon. My favorite is the red shelf bracket that is holding your red flowerpot.
ReplyDeleteI bought that pot and the little shelf at garage sales!! Isn't it amazing what a can of spray paint can do???
DeleteThe month of February is upon us red lovers. I love your new touches. That beautiful pup is so photogenic. She must be lots of company for you both.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day,
Balisha
Red! Such a cheerful color and I never seem to get enough of it..and yet in younger day would not be caught dead wearing anything red. It took years to admit I loved it..or to even see the beauty in it...I do now! Thanks for stopping by and commenting..and admiring my Mele.
DeleteYou did well at the yard sales, Mona...you have been so fortunate to find all kinds of flatware, lately. I polish mine every once in awhile just for something different to do! I like the red brackets and planter, nice addition to your outdoors sitting area.
ReplyDeleteOh my sweet Mona, ya can come visit me anytime with your can of spray paint!!! 'Just beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteGlory girl, ya do find the 'goods' at the yard-sales don't ya???
I'm quite smitten with the heart on your door, sweet!
God bless you beautiful lady and have a grand day!!! :o)
You like my fat heart with the dangling bit of glass??? Me too!!!
DeleteI love the red touches to the porch...I'm a real fan of the color red anyway and you've used it beautifully. Your puppy is adorable and I just have to throw in my ladder wisdom...ladders are evil! Working in surgery has made me realize the truth of that statement, so please keep grabbing hubby's bum!
ReplyDeleteOh Yaya..you are sooo right! I watch him like a hawk!!
DeleteYour house is sooooo pretty. And I can't wait to see the Valentine's decoration.
ReplyDeleteEmily was happy when she saw Mele's picture.
Love you, Grandma Mona!
Sweet Granddaughter..thank you for stoppin by..I was so surprised! :) I love you. Kiss baby girl for me!!
DeleteI love the photo of Melli, she has such a loving face. I just want to tell you where all the knives go. I use them for digging in the garden!!!!! naughty.
ReplyDeleteLove the red brackets, your home looks so sweet. Hugs
Kay
