~NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL LOVE...~

This morning, like every morning, I woke to the usual early morning sounds of sweet husband going out for the morning paper...and I dozed off. I started back awake when the garage door slammed. I decided to get up and go see his smiling face and have some coffee...and yes, investigate. BAD move!
NO smiling face this morning...

As I entered the kitchen I saw a pile of papers on the kitchen floor in front of the refrigerator...

And more crumpled papers on the island...and a grim face which I didn't photograph because my sweetie was NOT in the mood to be photographed!! (my camera is always handy lately...) :)

See? Not a pretty sight early in the morning is it?? Not when one expects a welcoming smile and a hot cup of coffee...

He was NOT smiling and he was smoothing away like crazy and explained to me that the sprinklers had wet his morning paper through and through...so...

...he had taken it to the garage...as he had once seen me do with another piece of paper that had gotten wet...and he threw the entire paper into the dryer. I guess he had forgotten that the paper I had dried had been small and I had IRONED it dry

Yep...this newpaper had seen a better morning... all hard, crisp and rather crunchy. NOT easy to read...

So I gathered it all up..assured him I could fix it (I admit to feeling like Super Woman that had come to save the day...um..morning....)

Remember that beautiful steam iron I bought awhile back...(only just a tad worried about my adorable ironing board cover that a lady made for me..) Ah well...sweet husband was more important right now...poor baby!!

See that steam? LOVE that iron!!

And in no time flat....not perfect..but certainly readable....and I just...

... love that smiling face! ok, ok..this was taken tonight when he was tired....he had quite a day...mowed the lawn...edged...weeded...

Well...you would have had to be here... :)

*I was singing .."Oh Happy Day" all day long!*

Love and hugs..

Mona

  2. Oh you silly girl. You could have called up the newspaper company and they would come bring you a new one within 1/2 hour. We have had that happen to us before.

    Hugs,
    Joanne

  3. Yes, this is a sweet story, and who knows, maybe a freshly ironed Sunday newspaper will be the hallmark of your love story together. It would certainly be a story I would tell my family, with love!

  4. What a couple of sweeties y'all are! I recently heard that we're here to ease stress in others' lives - not add to it. You certainly fulfilled that role quite nicely! And with great grace & charm!

    What a blessing you are!

  7. O, gosh, Mona...here where I live, we just have to call our newspaper office and they send another out, usually before I can even get the phone hung up.
It WAS sweet of you, tho, to do this for
Mr. Sweetly...and his smile is so so cute. He's a cute fella !! :)))

  9. Oh, Mona!

You always make me smile with First Cup!! I've done that very thing, with homework, with charts, with papers of all sorts.

And I love that smiling face, too! What a sweetie, and what a sweetie he's married to.

Why, if you're ever in the job market, you could go right to one of the Great Houses or castles in England, and they'll grab you in a minute. I think that ironing thing is still done every morning by a butler or valet or someone for the Master and Mistress of the House.

This was SO sweet! We just do what we can for each other, smoothing the way with every wrinkle smoothed out.

  10. Mona, you are so sweet to that man of yours! I laughed so hard when you said he put it in the dryer!! :-)
I"m really glad you were able to reconnect with your friend too! Moving around a lot does make it really hard for friends to keep in touch. These days with facebook and e-mail and skype... No problem!

  12. Oh Mona, you are a wise woman! Surely it would be easier to call the newspaper management for a new one. But then he had not smiled the whole day. The way you had solved the problem by ironing his newsppaper (LOL) made you to his hero. I am sure he will never forget this. Wasn't that a cute idea of him to put the wet newspaper into the dryer? Have a good time together.
    Greetings, Johanna

  13. LOL! Glad you got the smile back. Reminded me of when I was little and my grandpa use to have a slot in this old cigar box where he would stuff bills of money into. He went to purchase a car and drug out this cigar box and the money was all just crunched up in every direction. I can still see grandma ironing all his bills to go buy the car LOL!

  18. You are so brave. I'd have been afraid the newspaper ink would smear all over the iron! Oh the things we do for love!

Have our reservations all made. Counting down the days.

  19. I thought the same as Joanne Kennedy...just get another paper. But I once spent 3+ hours blow-drying a textbook doused in Pepsi. It was crinkly, but still usable for the remainder of the semester, and I donated it to the teacher to give to another student who might not have the means to buy the textbook. A win for all!

  21. Hello Linda...actually he was a happy camper all day long. OUR own sprinklers spoiled the morning paper...that is why he did not call for a new paper to be delivered. He felt it was his own fault I guess. He is like that. Very responsible! :) And sweet..and honest. Rare man..this one!
    Hugs,
    Mona
