~A BIT OF THIS AND THAT...~

Little Emily helping her Aunt Natalia get ready for the wedding between her father's first cousin, Alex, and Natalia, her mother's sister. Did you follow that? I am having this one framed! I will put it beside my favorite photo of her father. See below...

Emily's daddy and my eldest grandson, Adam, when he was her age exactly.

I BROKE my beautiful new apothecary jar and can't bring myself to get rid of the lid. A sweet blogger told me to put it on a pretty plate but so far everything I have tried just looks like the "broken lid of an apothecary jar sitting on a plate..." You know?
There has to be something that it will look good on.

I thought this magazine was a bit expenisve, but the cover was nicely made and thick and I wanted to look at everything more closely...so...I bought it! I cringed but I bought it. Thus my floors! I have to say, I'm glad I have it. I need all the help I can get! :)

Daughter and Granddaughter are here from Atlanta, Georgia. It's all about family lately. They are leaving on an early morning flight and how I hate to see them go!
There will be another large family gathering in May, I think, but I am not sure if they will all come or not. Families are not supposed to be so far apart. I think Kristy was getting afraid she wouldn't see me again. :) I smile at that. She will!

Can you tell I had several different subjects and could settle on anything?
Ah well...
Hugs to all of you..
Mona

  2. How funny, I broke my jar and kept my lid too! I will have to look for something to put under it as well. Good idea, I did not think of that.

  3. Hi Mona,
That first picture is just priceless. I think I'm having the itch for grandkids too early or something. I can't even talk my son into getting engaged so I will have to wait for a while! You've been in the "MY PEEPS" category for a long time! Just probably never got down to the bottom of the endless list that keeps growing day by day! New friends near and far and I love them all!

    Warmly,
    Nancy

  4. Sweet photos! I love the black and white theme they had...it looks so good on everyone! I like keeping the lid, too. You can still enjoy it. I love beautiful magazines and I've noticed they just keep getting more expensive...some more than a book! But many are worth it...this one looks interesting!

  6. Oh what a darling picture! I know you've enjoyed your family visit -- I love when mine are around -- my daughter and her family were here today for lunch and I loved it! Even though they live in the same area -- with all the busy schedules, it's just nice to have a visit! Oh dear! I'm so sorry you broke your pretty jar --- boo hoo! I hate when those things happen -- I hope you'll find something fun that's worthy of the lid...I'm sure you will. Love my magazines -- enjoy!

  8. Those beautiful children, and what a treasure, to have Dad and Daughter side by side, when they were the same age. By chance, we have one taken of DS#2 with his baby girl, with his own baby picture in the background. The images of the two little ones are just uncannily alike.

Our Girl will be here to spend the day in a bit, so I'd better drink this whole pot of caffeine and take all my vitamins!

    hugs from the Heartland!!

  9. Mona, a suggestion on the beautiful lid...turn it over, hang it from a flowerpot hanger (macrame or something similar) and put a flower in it...just a thought!!

  14. Yes, You must frame the top photo! It´s wonderful!

Why not put a small arrangement with a rose and some fern leafs under the lid. Just put the rose and fernmn leaf in that green stuff that keeps water (we call it Oasis here in Sweden)

    Have a great day now!

  16. What a darlin little girl helping her Mommy put on her necklace. So sweet. I would frame it too.
You could always try to find a small crystal dish and put the lid on it.
I sure wish I had grandkids. You are lucky.

  17. Mona~ The photo of Lil' Emily is so adorable. It would make lovely framed gift.

The apothecary lid would look better proportionately in a cylinder vase http://www.floralsupply.com/cat.cgi?s=GFTWFTG510&c=medvases to create the illusions of a complete piece. Or a pedestal plate that's an equal size. I hope you can find the right fit.
    Come by for a visit.

    Sweet wishes,
    Sara

  18. P.S. The link is just a pic to show you the type of cylinder vase I was referring too.

  20. Hi Mona,

The little ones are so precious! God Bless them. I can't wait to have grandkids!

I know what you mean about family living far apart. Our family lives in Wyoming and we miss the get togethers.

  21. My family all lives close to me. I know I don't think about often how blest I am.
Enjoy your time with your loved ones. The picture of your grandchild is so precious - you surely should frame it.

  22. That sweet little picture is one of the most precious things I've ever seen. How perfectly adorable.

Yes, I know all about ruining things.......YIKES....I'm so sorry about your apothecary jar. That's sooo sad. I did see somewhere here in blogland, someone had a top similar to yours with cute tags tied around it......do you think that might help?

    Warm hugs,
    Spencer

  23. Hi Mona! Thanks for visiting my blog and for your kind words. I just happened to stumble by your blog, and the sweet little picture of Emily caught my eye. I also broke an apothecary jar, and I also kept the top! (LOL) I thought it was just me and my sometimes hoarding issues (I'm glad to know I'm not the only one). I will make sure to post many pictures of my livingroom when it's finally done. I also wanted to thank you for following my blog. Have a blessed day.

  24. I love hearing the rain too. It's the wind I could do without. We had a lot of trees down all over town and our power went out 4 different times, the last one lasted 4 hours. We went to dinner and kept our fingers crossed it would be on when we came home. I was so glad it was!

I have the same cottage style book and love that cover photo. Can't wait to see your floors.
    Hugs,
    Dawn

  25. Oh Mona sweetie...
That picture of little Emily is breathtaking. Now how do these beads work again? You said I am to put them on my neck how? They sure look long to me? Oh my how sweet that is. Through the eyes of a child.

That apothecary lid has to fit something. How about Mod Pague putting some favorite photos onto the glass and making it art, instead of finding art for it? That might be fun. After you add the photos and seal it, you could add bling to the litle knob on top. Just a thought.

Have a beautiful day sweetie. Country hugs and much love, Sherry

  26. Mona~ Here's a better link for your lid dilemma.

    http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=4620&f=33257

Here's another version of the idea I was thinkin'.
    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=36501430

Your lid can be glued to the round disk (found at any Lowes or Home Depot) in place of the (wood) finial that was pictured. Then you won't have to custom fit your lid to the vase. Any size will work after the disk is applied. I do like the rustic charm of the jute/twine trim, but I'm drawn to a little more formal cording. The spray paint color has so many options, Hmmm, you could go for a bold color...like candy apple red. I do like a pedestal though. Okay I've rambled on enough. You know where you can find me if you've got any questions.

Then again I like the idea of...filling the lid with a nest and love birds with all the twigs and vines. Ooooh so many ideas and so little time.

    Sweet wishes,
    Sara

  27. hi..i just hopped over from christers blog and wanted to say that first photo is wonderful! take the lid to the grocery store and look for a nice jar, ie. pickle jar or mustard (i can't tell the size from the pic) jar which it will either fit over or into. for a little cost you could get a mate for the lid.

  28. Sweet Emily! How beautiful! Mona, I just sent you an email after reading your comments on Sherry's turtle questionaire..I sent it before ever popping over here to visit your blog. It's wonderful! So cheerful and welcoming. I'm going to join as one of your followers when I finish this, okay. Then I'll be visiting often. May blessings, peace, and sunshine be with you always, Terri Smith, http://dimplesdragonflies.com

  29. Sorry you broke your jar. I found one this weekend at the thrift store. Put the lid away for a while and something will come to your later. Hugs

  30. As for you broken jar, I would get a nice small wooden dish that is just a little larger then the bottom of the lid and use it as a cover for cheese spread or butter. I wouldn't part with it either. Thats the problem of being a gleamer. I too am a gleamer and learne my talents from my Dear Sweet Mother-in-law. She is one of the best.
