~ROSE REMORSE~

The summer is fast passing me by...I missed the weekend on the Queen Mary and the trip to Catalina! I missed the 4th of July also. We had to cancel our trip to Maine..
This was not my best summer....but...wonderful Fall is ahead of me. Pumpkins, cornstalks, Halloween...many good things...and I have NO cancer! God is good!
Yes, I have more to go through...but I have so much! I cannot feel sorry for myself one single bit!
I am weak and can't get around very much and tire easily but...I am getting well! I am so thankful!

Now...I have a question. Have you ever had buyers remorse? Bought something you thought was really cute and when you got it home it wasn't right and with each passing day...you realized how very wrong it was for your home? I KNOW you probably have...and I just recently did that. See the picture below?

Yes, it is a pretty copy of a Paul DeLongpre (hope I spelled that right) and it is on canvas. I bought it on ebay and when I bought it the colors looked much softer in the photo. It took a full month to get it from the seller...but it finally arrived and I had a special place for it.
It was WAY too bright in color for the room. My question is...does anyone know a way to soften the print. I can do a very light antiquing on the frame perhaps..but...I am concerned about touching the canvas. I probably paid too much for it..but it is here now and I need to find a way to use it. At this time I moved it to the guest room and changed out the picture there with this one. (I should have done that in the first place! :) When I feel better I will see what I can do.

So...does anyone know how to fix such things? I don't think I will buy any more prints online or anywhere I cannot see them first hand. It just looks too..crisp and new for my taste. If you have a suggestion, please do let me know.

I am going to try and do some visiting tomorrow. I have done a bit and then give up. I am off to bed right now. I do hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Hugs to all of you out there. I cried when I read the comments you had left me. I sat here and sobbed. I had sent Howard off to Long Beach to the party with his family....I MADE him go..it was his daughter's fiftieth birthday and I would not allow him to miss it and I was just too weak to do it.
I felt so lonely and left out..and blue..and then I came on and read your very dear and precious comments...I have even had some wonderful caring emails. I cannot thank you enough! What a wonderful group of women you all are!! I am every day impressed with your kindess!
Mona

  1. Hi Mona! I´m so glad that You don´t have cancer and hoping You´ll soon be Yourself again!

I can honestly say that I never regreted a buying I´ve done. But then I don´t have the feeling for what´s going together with everything else :-) :-)

I´m not sure if this will help with Your problems, but You could try frosted glass on the picture. Not to frosted of course :-) :-) That would take away the hardness of the bright colors I think.
I´m glad to read from You again and You´re in my prayers!

  2. Sweet Mona...Praying your feeling stronger and stronger all the time. If your not wanting to actually touch the print then try removing the print and putting a fine layer of netting, (easy to choose from at any fabric store), over the picture and pop it back in the frame. It should give it a dreamy look and tone down the brightness of the print...Feel better sweety...xoxo~Kathy~ @ Sweet Up-North Mornings...

  3. Dear Mona, I'm so happy to see your post. It seems it has been a rough July for many of my blogging buddies. I think we are all looking forward to fall! Cooler weather will certainly be welcomed!

I think Christer's and Kathy's ideas are great. Maybe even a light, colored glass would work? Are there any stained glass shops in your area? OH, I just had a thought! Scrap book paper! There are some that have a frosted see-through look. I used it once as an overlay on a card. I printed out my sister's wedding photo on it then put it over a beach themed paper and got a wonderful soft look. I think I found it in the Martha Stewart section of Michaels but I bet you could find it in any craft or art store. It comes in different colors too.

Now your "rose remorse" has me thinking up all kinds of projects.
I guess I better finish the back log in my craft room before I hit the stores though!

    Be well, my friend!

  4. Hi Mona,
I am sooooo happy you are feeling better and you had good news. Now... it is important to get your strength back and it seems you are starting to. I have many buyer remorse moments. Actually...I just went antiquing this weekend and bought one thing I probably could of done without. Oh well...hopefully next time I do better. I do like the idea about the tinted glass and netting for your picture. How about if you put some kind of wash over it? Have a great day Mona!!

  5. I'm sorry that so many things have passed you by this summer (I've had that kind of summer, too, and my homeschooling resumes today!) But I'm so glad that you don't have cancer and that you have so many things to come that you can look forward to!

My thought on the picture is putting some scrapbooking paper, ie vellum, etc., over the top of the glass to tone it down. Let us know what you do and how it looks!

  7. Try seeing how you like it after you antique the frame. Just that little difference might help. I am glad to hear that you are on the road to recovery!

  9. I've been thinking too how much I am looking forward to Fall- my favorite. This Summer is just flying by. I don't have any great advice for the picture but it looks like some others have shared some wonderful ideas. Hope you have a great Monday.

  11. Mona, I am praying that you regain your strength soon. You get tired of being tired. But it sounds like you are regaining your strength slowly.

I actually like your little picture but I am sure in person it does look different than on the computer screen. I don't have any ideas how you can alter it. Maybe it will eventually grow on you ;-)

  12. Hi, I stumbled upon your blog after doing a blog search on "Maine." So sorry to hear you had to cancel your trip this way. You wouldn't have missed much if it had been earlier. We've been having one of the rainiest summers on record. Better now, but we're only 2 inches away from the all-time record. We should make that easily.

And as an artist, I was sorry to hear of your frustration over your online purchase. That's always tricky since computer monitors vary as they do. I always try to match my images to what's on my easel as closely as I can.

I recently had a special promotion, "100 Paintings in 100 Days for $100." (Now closed) The feedback was great! A lot of people commented on how much they enjoyed it and then seeing the paintings in person when they received them. So I wouldn't give up on it if I were you. But I'm certainly not going to tell you how to feel or what to do. I have had that "buyer's remorse" myself.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Stay well!

  13. Hi Mona...

My friend...that is the best news ever...no cancer!!! I'm praying for you, Sweetie...that the Lord rebuild your strength and help you through this difficult time! I'm so sorry that you have had to miss out on so much this summer...there is a verse in the Bible that say the Lord will restore those things that you have missed out on...so be ready, Darlin'! Better days are ahead!!!

Well now, I just love your beautiful rose painting!!! That is such a pretty print and I love that beautiful frame! I bet you would like it more if the colors were a bit more demure...as you said. I just read a blog post the other day (but for the life of me can't remember who? Eeeks...senior moment!) But she used a tea stain to slightly darken her print! You said this was on canvas, right? I would think that even taking an acrylic paint...some sort of brown...and water it down, then with a soft cloth just rub it on the canvas. It's fairly easy to control just how much coloring that you want on with this method. Just a suggestion!

    Love and prayers, Sweetie!

  14. TRANSPARENT layers of oil paint are called GLAZES.

TRANSLUCENT layers of oil paint are called WASHES.

Both are colors thinned with a solution of 1/3 linseed oil, 1/3 turpentine and 1/3 Damar varnish.

A WASH is a thin OPAQUE color used over another dry color. A wash will not change its essential color and appears as a TRANSLUCENT layer on top of other colors.

Take a tube of oil paint in eggshell or a parchment and mix with the above mixture.Really thin it down a lot. Put it on the painting with a soft brush.Work quickly and have some cheesecloth handy to wipe off if you cover it too much.Make sure the cheesecloth is free of strings, so they don't adhere to the painting. Let this dry and I would spray with Krylon 1311 acrylic spray...make sure it's matte. Then if you make the frame...not so shiny, by glazing it a bit. I'll bet you will be happy with it.Good luck!Make sure it is totally dry before putting it in the frame again.

  15. Hi again. I would agree with Balisha's comment, if it is oil paint. And you would need to make sure it is completely dry before attempting. Is it varnished? I would want to remove that first. That would mean waiting at least another month or more, depending on when the painting was completed.

But you described it as a "print." If a print, Chari's acrylic suggestion might be more appropriate. But not knowing what kind of print, I'd be reluctant to offer any advice on it.

For color, though, perhaps a thinned down white would be nice. It would fog it up a little. That might work better for you. Just some thoughts.

  17. Evening, Dear Mona! Praise God you're cancer free! And I pray you'll be feeling better really soon! Just take care of yourself and we'll all be here for you when you feel like coming back lots!
Your little painting is pretty. I really don't know what to do. I don't know if it would work, but maybe a thin sheet of vellum could be placed over the print and it would cloudy it some. I'm sure others have better ideas!
Just take care of yourself and remember to be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  24. Hi Barb, glad you're getting better...the translucent white wash is what I would do...oil paint is much easier to control than acrylic...
Hope you get well really quickly!!!

  25. Hi Mona, Happy Happy Days!!! No cancer!!!!! Yes, God Is Good, All the Time!!
As to the picture, I'd try the frosted glass or maybe two layers of it or a really fine sheer or netting behind the glass before I would risk actually putting something onto the picture. But that's me, I'm not real gutsy!
